Peril at the end house by Agatha Christie.
.
Hercule Poirot as detective and his friend Hastings as Co-detective. Is on holiday at Majestic hotel in St Loo.
.
Meanwhile they found a young girl Named " Nick Buckley" , and her life in grave danger.
.
This young girl had already 3 escapes from death.
.
How our Poirot solves this mystery by using his grey cells 🕵️‍♂️? Any deaths during or before investigation ?
.
Title Peril at end house, This end house belongs to Nick Buckley.
.
Hastings played as just narrator to us and a friend to Poirot. If he do investigation with Poirot and find culprit is nice I thought.
.
But it's ok. Poirot wont leave anyone, but Hastings sees everyone as good , until Poirot proves them.
.

🎯Some lines from book :
》Relations are too devastating as a rule. They fuss and interfere. It's much more fun to be on one's own.
》I know - I know. To all of us, Mademoiselle, there comes a time when death is preferable to life. But it passes sorrow passes and grief.
》I am the dog who stays on the scent and does not leave it.
》In the midst of life we are in death.
》keeping a secret is an art that requires many lies magnificently told, and a great aptitude for playing the comedy and enjoying it.
.
.
》Book Starting may be slow, but gradually it picks up speed from chapter 9, while Poirot starts real investigation.
》As we know Christie's writing is impeccable. You wont leave book until the end.
》Unexpected endings.
》Unexpected culprit.
》Book is in medium pace.
》Book has 22 chapters.
》Page count : 240.
》From commencement to conclusion of the book ,every thing is well portrayed including characterization.
》language is clear. Title and cover is apt for the story.
》Its a good read for mystery and suspense readers.

Not one of the best ones from Agatha Christie. Story is predictable and ends abruptly. I guess her best novel "murder of Roger Ackroyd" set real high standards and none of her other books come closer. Hercule Poirot seems too blunt to notice some facts about killer earlier .. even though readers have guessed it. Rest all characters are not that engaged with the murder, it's Poirot who gets all worked up and engages all characters who seem to get on with their own businesses otherwise despite of death.

Peril at End House by Agatha Christie (Hercule Poirot, #8)
.
If you ask me what's my comfort read, I'll definitely say, a good old murder mystery at any day. These days and for all, I do fangirl over Hercule Poirot's 'orders and methods'.
.
When I have googled before starting this book, have found a review saying that this story is good but doesn't have the brilliance like '...Orient Express' and all. Thankfully I haven't got disheartened by the review and picked it up anyway. I have enjoyed all along.
.
Most of the Christie stories I have read are plotted on a distant place, far away from the usual crowd which itself creates a mysterious ambiance. So does this one. The most remarkable thing in the story is that it's based on the truthfulness and the falsehood of the characters.
.
Most of our known detective story-tropes are ofcourse present here, but the constantly manipulative writing style of Christie is what I have my heart for...A classic 'whodunnit' glorified through it's presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christie deceived us all again, very intelligently! (No spoilers)

All the intro is there at the back of the book, so I am not repeating here again.

Coming to the story, the storyline itself attracted me to read the book and yes, the book was worth every minute I spent reading, BREATHLESSLY!

Poirot, I guess, was the first time, he was so close to defeat as the murderer outwitted him twice in his presence yet he outwits by his brilliant logic and reasoning and ends the book perfectly. All the characters were good and Christie creates a very good impression on us that the innocent person is the murderer but in truth, someone else is.

There were good links and connections and the ending was unpredictable! By the way, another add on, the book is not too slow or too fast, just a perfect pace and not too boring.

Please do read this book, do not miss it.

Avronil Das
4.0 out of 5 stars It's still an excellent place to start
Reviewed in India on 8 April 2015

Peril at End House takes place well into the (interminable - so sorry, Ms. Christie) series. It's still an excellent place to start, at least if you mean to get hooked. For one thing, it's narrated by Hastings, whose occasional puffs of dry wit help to balance Poirot's overbearing self-satisfaction. He harbours the same blend of great admiration and almost parental forbearance that I feel for Poirot. Comme ça:

."... I've been hearing all about you and what a wonderful chap you are. Never had a failure, they say."
"That is not true," said Poirot. "I had a bad failure in Belgium in 1893. You recollect, Hastings? I recounted it to you. The affair of the box of chocolates."
"I remember," I said.
And I smiled, for at the time that Poirot told me that tale, he had instructed me to say "chocolate box" to him if ever I should fancy he was growing conceited! He was then bitterly offended when I used the magical words only a minute and a quarter later.

For another thing, the mystery is so full of choice twists and turns that one could scarcely predict the next, never mind get bored. I have yet to see if most others in the series can match End House plot-wise, but at least I know from this one that there's high potential. The ending is fantastic. True to the preferences of some readers (i.e. my romantic idealist mother), every character and element is well accounted-for.

When I read mysteries, and that's not been terribly often, I admit that I'm not the type to try to solve the crime before it's revealed. I'm blockheaded that way, I guess. What I do enjoy about Conan Doyle, and now about Christie, is the vivid brevity with which they create their characters. Most of these characters, all the suspects really, are puppets, but they are satisfactorily-made puppets, and we want them to be just so. We want to focus not on the suspects, but on the Godlike one among them. Like Holmes, Poirot is such a magnificent bastard that he's become an archetype in himself. For all that, he is still something of an enigma. We feel we know who Poirot is, but it's those little grey cells of his! - we can't fathom how he ticks. That is what draws us back. The mystery is cleverly crafted, the action moves quickly, the stakes are high, but none of these matter much.

This is a classic Agatha Christie mystery featuring Hercule Poirot, who is widely considered the most famous fictional detective character since Sherlock Holmes. Whether you are familiar with Agatha Christie and Poirot before or not, you are bound to enjoy it. It is like most other Christie novels brilliantly plotted and leaves you desiring for more.

Wahh Christie.. Wah !! Really queen of suspense. Till the last chapter you won't even have a clue of what's going on. There will be two - three sequences happening in parallel, which gets solved at the end by our man, Hercules Poirot !! I loved the way his character was build. A conventional detective I should say.A very good read, a nice mystery which was written at our grandfather's time. I recommend it to all the mystery lovers.

This is a superb mystery / detective story. Typical Agatha Christie book with Hercule Poirot in the center right from the beginning. I still felt some of the other plots like that of ‘Death on the river Nile’ or ‘5 little Pigs’ or ‘Murder of Roger Acroyd’ were more elaborate!
