I bake lots of banana breads. The only problem with this item is that it’s not tall enough and I have to squish my banana loaves on the top. It it a convenient size to store on the counter top but I would have liked it about 2 inches taller. It still works well. I would not have paid full price for it, I managed to buy it during Prime days.
I was initiallly hesitant to buy this due to reviews that it wasn't an adequate seal, but it seals very similarly to the plastic disposable containers you can buy bundts in from the supermarket; it just pushes two pieces of plastic really really close together so no air can really get in unless you squeeze it but it is not watertight. I am satisfied with the container. It is perfect to bring to a potluck or picnic, or simply for serving/storing/displaying loaves in your own home if you do not have space for a glass or ceramic loaf display. It is attractive, lightweight, spacious, and easy to clean. I only use a dinner or butter knife on this plastic though, never anything sharp or serrated. So far no issues with that. My only complaint: although the description states I ordered the red one, I got a light blue! Packing slip says "sea glass". Not quite worth returning during a pandemic, especially when it looks like it is no longer in stock anyway, although to the reviewer who said "This red-red is a little jarring in a pastel kitchen." I'll trade you! This pastel looks off in my red kitchen!
This fits cakes that are pound cake or items that are long and rectangular. It has a cover and can't break like glass or porcelain, or scratch like plexi. It isn't super sturdy, but it is sturdy enough. I keep it in my kitchen on the counter or in the refrig. It's a much cleaner way to keep certain food items in order that cake or other food particle crumbs do not land on the counter or off a plate. I do recommend it.
I don't know why NordicWare couldn't take a page from Tupperware's or Rubbermaid's book, & make a sturdy plastic that's dishwasher- and knife-safe, but at least this loaf-cake keeper is perfectly sized & does the job. Just be sure you use nonstick-safe, gentle knives or spatulas for cutting, as the plastic seems easily marred (I haven't hurt mine yet, so it's possible to keep it pretty). Shopped around & got this one b/c there simply wasn't another similarly sized cake keeper available (as of early 2020, at least). I hand-wash this & baby it with a toddler-safe knife, and it looks nice for presentation of NordicWare's decorative loaf cakes. (I bought red; comes in white also.)
