As much as I love reading Tessa dare's books, this is not my favorite. I found Lucy to be slightly annoying and could not identify with any of her decisions. The hero was not remarkable. It is a light read but nothing addictive about it.
I made the mistake of reading this after finishing a Georgette Heyer which perhaps is a little unfair on this author.
It took a while to get into it and certain elements were just annoying - the heroine who is forever sucking her hair - which the hero finds erotic - really?? The characters are pretty thin and the dialogue not the most dynamic, but the story did improve. I’d be interested in Sophia’s story as she seemed the most interesting person in the book- a nice read but I wouldn’t reread it given the choice.
I love Tessa Dare's writing and have read pretty much all of her output - my favourites being the Spindle Cove set. She has a terrific command of English and is also witty and funny. Her characters are warmly drawn and her love stories are simply charming. This is the first of a series of three novels about a group of friends and I enjoyed it very much. Great summer reading.
This is the second book I have read by Tessa Dare, the first being read only a couple of days ago. She is a brilliant writer and can combine interesting story lines to keep you hooked along with passion, tension and chemistry between her hero and heroine. I like the fact that she can create a hero that seems real to me as in other romances you just get told the man is tall, muscle bound and moody. She creates real people who I can easily imagine. Super. I am now hunting out the rest of her books. Holly.
