Well, this series just gets better and better. Here we have a mystery - Corporal Thorne obviously knows something about Kates past. Kate is not aware of any connection to him: she longs to be part of a family and is trying to find out about her life before she was abandoned. Thorne tries to avoid Kate whenever he can, Kate dislikes Thorne. Then due to unfortunate circumstances they are forced into each other’s company, and sparks start to fly. She realises there is much more to the taciturn giant than she realised, and he is forced to face his feelings for her. There follows a brilliantly witty story of their romance, including a mischievous puppy, exploding melons and a marquesses outrageously eccentric family. There were many passages which made me giggle, and the “duel” between Samuel and Evan left me with tears of laughter. Notwithstanding this, Thornes story is desperately sad and his HEA comes as a huge relief. Tessa Dares books are now a definite must for me.
A very good read but slow to start Thorne was a very lucky man if he kept pushing me away I wouldn't purse him Katie never gave up and kept on at Thorne. His character was Solomon grumpy and sometimes rude but as the pages unfolded you learned how much he had sacrificed and was still willing to sacrificed for Kate's sake he loved her but wasn't a man who could show emotions so easily. Kate was strong willed and very brave Thorne was no pussy cat, however Thorn has secrets he is keeping from Kate and she is desperate for family and someone to love her. In my opinion she came across as desperate and I feel like she should have had more self respect all in all a good read but there journey was long and tedious in a places.
I enjoyed this & read it quickly. This series of books - much like the Bridgerton series - is a US marketing dream: new characters are introduced and subsequent books produced. However, this is fine as a stand alone book. Tessa Dare is a good writer and her characterisation and plotting are good. Female writing likes to explore the reasoning behind action, there are times when I’m all for that. This isn’t a bog standard ‘romance’ novel, Dare is refreshingly honest and has a style and integrity that makes her stand out.
EVERY story in this series is brilliant, in this one we have Kate who was an orphan all she ever wanted was a family, she remembered nothing except a blue room and a song. Simon had a very tough life, his mother was a prostitute he grew up in a brothel,, was in prison, then joined the army. He moved with the army to Spindle Cove, where he meets Kate. I love the characters in these books Spindle Cove has lots of misfits living there. They have funny, make you laugh, the interaction a d conversation with each other being them to life. Great read.
Please check your library before buying this book. A con¬ I have bought and read this book before under a different title, basically this is a con on the partoftheauthor and publisher to makeyou think its a new book when it is a reprint of an old novel under a new name. Tessa should be ashamed. I love her writing , but this is untenable- I will certainly thibk twice before buying any more of her books. A disgusting and underhand pracrice. Such a shame, Tessa Dare does not needto do this, she has a large readership already- the only excuse is greed. I am very disappointed in an author I loved.
This is my second book from the Spindle Cove series to read and I loved it. Having been given a taste of Kate and Thorne's relationship from the other book, 'A week to be wicked', I ordered this book as soon as I had it completed. And is proved and even better read than the first. I loved the relationship between Kate and Thorne and I couldn't put it done until finished. Got no work done that day. But it was well worth it and highly recommend it.
Dare writes such brilliant stories and this is another good one. I have scored it 4 stars instead of 5 as I had trouble visualising the hero which was a shame as he was an interesting character. It is a good story and if it had been written by anyone else then it would have had 5 stars but compared to Dare's other stories it was just missing something for me.
I can't get enough of Tessa Dare's books. I especially love the Spindle Cove series. They just flow along and you're at the end before you know it, unfortunately. All the characters are well rounded and you care what happens to them. I was glad that Kate and Thorne had their own story as there's been something brewing for a while. Spot on yet again!
