I was browsing for books for my nephew and came across this and bought it just because the illustration on the cover was so cute, those toes are just precious!! When I received it and read it, I immediately fell in love with it. It is sooo cute and the illustrations throughout are amazing. My original plan was to give it to him for his collection, but i think this might be one that stays with us in my collection of my childhood favorites for when he stay over with his aunt and uncle. :) I highly recommend this for any kid or adult who is feeling reminiscent.
I like that this book tacks on a lesson of kindness and being true to yourself. My twins are 3.5 and mildly pick up on the message that is being delivered. Any book that opens up dialogue and gets children thinking is a great book in my opinion!
I ordered this book for my six year-old after reading some really good reviews of the author's work. It arrived a week ago and has quickly become my daughter's favorite book. She loves it because of the delightful pictures, engaging story and completely lovable Wilfred. I love it for all of the same reasons, and more. As a parent, I am always on the lookout for stories that provide great life lessons without my children ever suspecting. Wilfred is a beautifully illustrated tale about unconditional love, friendship, sacrifice, and redemption, but is a completely FUN read with adorable characters. I'm going to look for other titles from this same author, and my daughter is hoping a Wilfred stuffed toy will soon be available!
Something about gentle giants gets me everytime. Lovely lesson on being kind and not taking advantage of someone because they are different from you. I read it to 1st and 2nd graders and we had fun ordering plot elements and acting the story out.
It's surprisingly difficult to find quality children's books. I came upon this while searching for some new books that both looked appealing in the artwork and sounded original in the storytelling. I'm glad to say this didn't disappoint on either front. I love Ryan Higgins artwork, and the story was original while also containing a great moral. My niece and nephews all loved it. I'll definitely purchase more by this author in the future. It would be great to see further stories involving Wilfred as well.
