The book was fine. The problem is that the book was priced at $3.99 on the back and I was charged $17 by the seller. My bad for not checking the description. I thought I was getting a hardcover children’s book and it was a small paperback with less than 20 pages. Worth $3.99, not $17.
This book is labeled "level Pre-1" and consistent with other pre-1 books it has pictures instead of some words. Unfortunately this book also has contractions and tricky sentence structures. For example We've instead of we have, Cap'n instead of Captain and I'll instead of I will. All too difficult for a 4 year old who is pronouncing words phonetically. Here is an example of a clumsy sentence not appropriate for Pre-1. "Smee, says Hook, "put the skeleton key in a safe place, will you?"". That's three commas in one short sentence, no good. I think Bill Scollon screwed up adapting this text.
The pages did not fit the iPad, a lot of the pictures were cut off and unable to be viewed. The 3 year old doesn't mind but I'm disappointed with how much the cost was for such a poor rendition of an electronic book. Great idea, poor execution.
