I expected dishes like good steaks, Pies, some simple baked dishes, and since Gordon is a British I thought he would give us some good British dishes. In stead we have a hotch potch of. Italian, Mexican and what not. The dishes have a weird taste. Neither this nor that. I am terribly disappointed with this very expensive Book.
Bought this for my husband as he has started showing an interest in cooking things other than toasties and beans on toast. Not what I expected, full of quinoa salads and odd breakfast concoctions. Luckily I read through it before giving him it as he would have been a bit disappointed with how to make avocado on toast. I managed to regift it to someone I didn’t particularly like but it’s not really the point.
This book is very much like a development of "Gordon Ramsey - Makes It Easy". Very centred around the home kitchen, the recipes in this quality book are all achievable and practical for the home cook preparing dishes for family and dinner guests. I like the breakdown of the book- chapters include Breakfasts - Soups - Salads - Afternoon Pick-Me-Ups - Kitchen Suppers - Friends for Dinner and lastly Puddings. The Friends for Dinner section is where it all gets serious but there is nothing that can't be handled by an amateur cook, whilst the other sections have got all sorts of interesting quick recipes that do the job.
I'm an experienced cook, but I found over 90% of the recipes in this book much too fancy/faffy, with ingredients I'd have to buy just for that dish. This is NOT what I'd call home cooking and I have returned it.
So many cookbooks sit on the shelf as monuments to kitchen aspirations rather than as a resource that makes your cooking better in the real world! This isn’t one of those. As someone who can use the odd colourful word myself but was unimpressed by Ramsey’s apparently aggressive tv persona for years I’ve recently been converted. This is a great cookbook. It’s eminently practical and extremely clearly written and formatted. The recipes are practical, the methods are clearly laid out and ( unlike many cookbooks that look fancy and are heavily promoted ) they work! An additional benefit is Ramsey’s habit of explaining WHY as well as what and when. This develops skills and understanding for the home cook in tandem with increasing confidence etc. The recipes work and the results are delicious! 100%!
Really useful for the home cook who wants to up their game but not get bogged down with fancy gourmet recipes. This is the first recipe book that has got me cooking several recipes in one week. I particularly like the feeling you get that Gordon is in the kitchen with you. I have found the way the procedure steps are laid out really helpful as Gordon explains WHY you need to do something in a certain way. There are also hints and tips - not too many that you get side-tracked but just enough to keep you going. The family are most impressed and I have got a new lease of interest in cooking. I can recommend it.
Loving this book. Has just about everything. Simple recipes when you are short on time but still want taste. And more complicated species when you want to show off a bit! Healthy stuff and more indulgent recipes too. The instructions are concise and easy to follow. The photography is excellent and shows what the dish should look like, although my efforts rarely do they still taste fantastic. The "Hash brown baked eggs with candied bacon" (page 44) do a stunning job on just about any hangover!
Cant go wrong with a GR cook book. As soon as it arrived (Prime next day delivery) I went out and got everything to cook the peanut butter and strawberry cookies. Followed everything to the gram and turned out very nice.
Plenty of other items in here and very good value for money.
This was a special request from my eldest who wanted cookery books as part of his Christmas presents. We enjoy watching Gordon;s programmes on tv, even the ones where he is not swearing! This cookery book has a great selection of recipes, which take your basic home cooking to new levels. The beginning of the book has a lot of advice on implements and devices and techniques to use in your kitchen and this was really informative. Need to get one for myself now!
