5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book

Kids love this story. The colors are bold, and the story allows for basic vocabulary building related to gardening. The story reads really nicely, and leads children to the understanding that their food comes from a garden, and that a garden can produce vegetables to use in soup. It talks about how the vegetables are noted, how they grow, a SN how they are prepared and cooked together for a meal. I accidentally ordered the paperback instead of the board book, so pay attention to the fact that there is a choice. I am sure that it is obvious, but I missed it. I was ordering it for a gift, so I was sad at myself for the mistake, but the book is one of our favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for preschoolers

I use this book in a class I teach for early childhood educators. It is a pretty perfect book. The language is simple and elegant. The illustrations are beautiful and informative and they complement the text. It teaches several valuable concepts at a level that preschoolers can "get."

I watched a family child care provider with a mixed-age group of 2- to 4-year olds use this book and simple props to involve all the children in acting out: preparing the soil, planting seeds, watering them, harvesting the veggies, and then making mock soup in a real pot with plastic vegetables.

This could be combined with each child bringing one veggie from home and making real soup, perhaps also reading the book "Stone Soup."

Each wonderful new picture book is a gift, now more than ever as we understand early literacy. Thank you for "Making Vegetable Soup."

I remember reading this book as a kid and was very excited to share with the kids. The board book seemed to be the same as the regular one and didn't leave anything out as it often happens with board books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmmm noodle soup. No no, VEGETABLE soup.

I love when recipe books have pictures. Has seriously helped me figure out this whole cooking thing and you know, gardening.

But really, my 5yr old loves this book. Mostly because of the garden outside and he can go and get the veggies needed to make soup. Will he actually eat the soup? No, because veggies are "icky" and he prefers meats and cheeses. So I have to get them into his body some other way.....maybe pasta sauce.

Anyways, wonderful book. Arrived on time for bedtime reading and is a well made piece of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colorful, labeled pictures!

I recommend this simple book for little ones and even early elementary years! What I love most is the process of growing vegetables being illustrated and tools used in a garden being labeled. Very colorful and large pictures. Board book is great so little ones don’t get paper cuts!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 3-year old loves this book

I don't know what it is about this book, but my 3-year old loves it, to the point of crying hysterically when I accidentally returned it to the library recently and a little girl took it home instead, and my son couldn't have it. Disregard the naysayers. I'm now buying the book, so we will always have it on hand. The colors are bright and bold, and the story follows the process of preparing a garden, planting seeds and seedlings, watering the garden, weeding, picking vegetables, and finally cutting things up and making soup. My son loves all things outdoors (leaves, pinecones, rocks, etc.) and he adores this book.
