I admit to 2 things here - 1) Annabeth Chase has never been one of my favourite characters in the Percy Jackson Universe and 2) I did prefer The Son of Sobek to The Staff of Serapis although Sadie Kane is hilarious! These short stories are definitely worth a read and I for one would love a full length Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles novel. Hey, maybe even add Magnus Chase into the mix - now THAT would be awesome!!
The Staff of Serapis is a short story and yet Rick Riordan's writing is as exciting as his full length books. Short stories have to be succinct and Riordan manages this very effectively.
The meeting of Annabeth Chase and Sadie Kane is exciting and as usual there are monsters to eliminate. Both these female central characters are complex and what a refreshing change reading about female characters who are not 'in thrall to the male hero!' Both female characters demonstrate they are resourceful and intelligent. What a refreshing change from those vapid female fiction characters who only exist to serve the fictional male hero and which continue to dominate girls' and boys' fiction.
Annabeth Chase and Sadie Kane meet due to outside influences. As Annabeth is heading to meet her boyfriend Percy Jackson at his home a chance encounter with a monster sends her hunting it by train. At the end of the line, events lead to yet another monster and a young girl, Sadie. \one thing follows another and a myth from Egypt's past is reborn.the two girls work together to stop him and a theory of why Percy and Carter met chasing a crocodile.
An enjoyable read and fans of both the Kane's and Percy Jackson would be enthralled.
Brilliant little novella, and usually I despise novellas. Very well written, advances the little storyline wherein the Greek/Roman world of Percy Jackson and the Egyptian world of the Kanes meets again. The girls, Sadie and Annabeth, react quite differently to each other than Percy and Carter did in the "Son of Sobek"- and the villain behind their meetings is revealed. Once Percy, Jason and the other heroes defeat Gaia- which I have every confidence that they will- I am excited to see how the Greek/Roman and Egyptian worlds collide! A delightful little novella to tide you over while you wait for the final Heroes of Olympus book to be released.
I am a huge percy jackson and kane chronicles fan. I read the son of sobek, and was very impressed. But this... IT'S LIKE THE ULTIMATE COMBO - SASSY, SMART AND SUPER COOL : Sadie Kane and Annabeth Chase team up!!!!!! MUST BUY!
This is a second short story involving the meeting up of a Greek Demi-god and an Egyptian magician to combat a dual Greek/Egyptian foe. I found the story hard to put down so I had to download it onto my smartphone as well as my kindle so I could read it during my coffee break. Is it a prelude to a full length novel involving Percy, Annabeth and the Kane siblings, I do hope so.
Once again Rick excels with a high octane short story combining the worlds of Annabeth and Sadie Kane. I have waited for these characters to meet for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. Looking forward to the four of them teaming up together. A lovely supplementary series. A nice short read for a hour or so. Well worth the price.
