Reviewed in India on 15 May 2018
Delivery: On promised day which is 2 days from ordered date. Packaging was good. Book came with air tight seal. Bookmark came with the book.

Book: Feels original, not a digital copy. But paper quality makes it doubtful.

Content: Author express the huge requirement of new ideas and uniqueness. Including success stories of Mark and Musk makes it interesting and inspirational to read.

Just received the book and was going through it to see any misprint or blank pages or missing content. Guess what I found? After page 188 there is a blank page and the content is unfinished. Not good.

Ranjeeth R
4.0 out of 5 stars A new perspective on starting a business & measuring monopoly. A decent read for entrepreneurs
Reviewed in India on 25 November 2016
Verified Purchase
The book gives a completely new perspective on how businesses should be run or rather on what basis one should even start a company. Discusses mostly about monopoly - and a definition for it. I have come across this measure of monopoly for the first time. The author emphasizes the importance of salesmen. Says the real selling is when customers are not even aware that the selling is happening. And goes on to sell his product, his current investment to the readers - not sure how many realised this. At the end, there was too much focus on trivial and uninteresting things like how founders are eccentric - may be he wants to show the audience that how cool he is. No credit was given to Sean Parker who introduced Zuckerberg to Thiel - the first major outside investment in Facebook. Instead Parker was portrayed as a villain who didn't know what he was doing. It ends with a philosophy called Singularity where there is infinite hope for the future. And according to the author, technology is the only thing that is capable of achieving it - with so many helping move the current scenario from 0 to 1. Other factors like psychology, spirituality, and other unknown realms are completely discounted by the author

This is one of those must-read books for everyone, especially for Startups and Entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship cannot be taught, but this book does put light on the fundamentals of starting a business.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great chapters on how to build a monopoly, approach markets, luck, hiring, culture, and sales.

The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin wonโ€™t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg wonโ€™t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you arenโ€™t learning from them.

Itโ€™s easier to copy a model than to make something new: doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1. The act of creation is singular, as is the moment of creation, and the result is something fresh and strange."

It's a must read, any entrepreneur who is in plans to start his business or any individual who are from the corporate world must read this book, its words, the logic is completely undeniable, gives one a better perspective, I have read this book 3 times n every time I have read I have found anew perspective to challenges faced in real world. Its a must have book on one collection. "This book is an encyclopedia in its own way" one thos who have read it more than once will understand what I'm saying.

Robby
3.0 out of 5 stars Very Average: Read the summary of this book instead of buying the full book
Reviewed in India on 10 February 2021
Verified Purchase
I purchased the book based on the recommendations and popularity online. However I found it short of the greatness it has been projected to be. Its a quick read and looking at the title you might think it has many big secrets related to startup ecosystem, just like I did but much to my regret it has very limited stuff which would actually help you in your startup journey.

The book is well written but it does not serve the purpose which its title and description stand for. Pieter Thiel seems to have mixed too much philosophy with few facts and the net result is that you are regretting your decision midway through the book. Donโ€™t get me wrong some advices are really good but they seem pretty expensive if you get only a handful of those after spending so much on the book.

I would suggest the reader/buyers to read a summary of this book if you can get it from someplace. It will serve you better and save your money as well.

Ranga
4.0 out of 5 stars Zero to One by Peter Thiel - Rangas Review
Reviewed in India on 28 August 2018

Books about start-ups are dime a dozen these days. But what makes this particular one stand out and demand attention are the following :

Itโ€™s author โ€“ Peter Thiel:

One of the very best in the business. He has worked with some of the stupendous success such as Facebook , PayPal. The book is based on a series of lectures Thiel gave at Stanford. Both these factors play a big role towards the authenticity & appeal of the book

Context:

This is one of the prime reasons that makes this book. Not only best practices, frameworks but also the context has been set in a very neat manner that makes it very effective and engaging.

Articulation style:

Thiel has also managed to articulate whatever he wanted to convey to the audience in a very effective manner. Especially for wannabe Entrepreneurs the book is an ideal launchpad and benchmark to vet their current efforts against.

Frameworks and Tools:

The book also provides lot of frameworks & tools that are very analytical and provides lot of depth in terms of suggestions as well leading to lot of introspection as a reader.

Thiel has got it bang on so far as a co-founder, Venture Capitalist and he continues his golden run. I would highly recommend it to all Entrepreneurs and Wannabe Entrepreneurs. An Excellent way to learn from the very best in business. #RangasReview
