Julia Quinn is always reliable. She writes witty regency romance that has now been filmed for television (as Bridgerton). Violet Bridgerton is the (widowed) mama to eight childen named in alphabetical order from Anthony to Gregory. This book is how the youngest female Bridgerton gets her man. Hyacinth Bridgerton is somewhat different. She's smart, outspoken and (to her siblings) somewhat annoying. She's had several seasons but failed to attract a suitable proposal of marriage (though there have been a few unsuitable ones). She's staunch friends with the eccentric and irascible Lady Danbury, so when Lady Danbury's rakish grandson, Gareth St Clair, is in need of a translator to unlock the secrets of his other grandmother's diary, Hyacinth volunteers. Gareth is hiding one family secret, but the diary contains another, and it holds the key to Hyacinth and Gareth's future, or does it?
Like many people i spend my days off over the festive season binge watching Bridgerton.I was delighted when i found out there were based on books and couldn't wait to get my hands on them. To say i read these books quickly it perhaps a bit of an understatement. Devoured is probably more accurate. I have enjoyed each and everyone of these books learning more about the individual siblings and their spouses but my favourite character, apart from Lady D that is, must be Violet Bridgerton. Who in Benedict's book; An Offer from A Gentleman; shows she is much more than a meddling marriage minding Mama.
This whole series has bewitched me from the first book, and I have been dying to read hyacinths story. Mainly because I thought of her as a wild child within the era of the books, I couldn't help but think it would take a special guy and an epic romance to pin her down.
The romance is good, but I love how Quinn weaves each love interest within the previous happenings of the series, enlightening us to different aspects, and peoples view of the same scene two books ago.
I have to admit, my favourite character in this book is actually Lady Danbury, she is clever, funny and a constant throughout the series.
currently making my way through all of Quinns books - -
than most of the other books as it concentrates on the characters rather than sex. There are still bedroom scenes but they're not so graphic as in other books in this series - in one the one about Francesca I felt like a Peeping Tom! Anyway, only Gregory to go now - I wonder what he'll get up to!
I’m usually really good at seeing how a book is going to go. But these books take different turns totally unexpected. I love reading these books as usual completely take you out of this awful pandemic we are all living through and for the time reading this book takes you to another time
An avid fan of Julia Quinn I very much enjoyed her earlier Bridgerton novels and often found I could not put then down! (Only doing so for a cup of tea/sleep, haha) but this lacked the authors usual aplomb, I agree with other reviews that the plot was very weak, and thought the question of legitimacy was a poorly convincing addition and not written with enough conviction to engage the reader. Overall ok, but found myself skipping and skim reading which hasn't happened before! Try some of the earlier stuff as its better but for a light period romantic read that's ok try this
I am a great fan of all of Julia Quinn's books I have read and re-read all the Brigerton books and absolutely loved everyone of them, fantastic books great caricatures and story lines. I have all of Julia Quinn's books books absolutely love everyone. she is one of the best authors of historical romance books. Even though I re-read her books I never get bored with them. I love reading a set of books about the same family because you get to know all the family. You will not be disappointed Highly recommended.
