This book is hilarious. I'm not sure who loves it more, myself or my robot-obsessed 3.5 yr old. If you're looking for wholesomeness and morality tales, this is not for you. However, if you have a sense of humor and don't mind the idea of world Robo-domination, then this book is super fun.
The illustrations are excellent, as is the surprise book transformation. The colors are mostly grayscale, metallic, and dayglow. I find the alternate cover doesn't wrap around perfectly, and does require adult help, but we're reading it together anyway.
My kids love this one. It's a bit irreverent and silly, and I love that in the end the boy's family is shown supporting him and being silly with him. Surprisingly the pages haven't ripped, which is probably mostly luck since my kids aren't exactly cautious when flipping the cover around. Both my 8 and 4 year old still love me to read this one to them. It's a hit in our house! Update: My kids are now 10 and 6 and still both love this book. (Well, the 10 year old doesn't read it on his own, but he always makes a point to come in and listen when we're reading it to his little brother!) They both love that the family in the book decides to be silly with the boy rather than scolding him. I think it appeals to them since they often find themselves in a similar situation! And the book still hasn't ripped, although I think that's mostly because we say the grown up reading it does the folding. This book has stood the test of time in our house!
I enjoyed Robo-Sauce so much that I bought copies for friends and family. It's humorous, light-hearted, extremely well-illustrated, and the COOLEST part - the book turns into a flashy new robot at the end (in fact, I think the process of turning the book into a robot is a great learning experience for children - it requires following instructions and thinking spatially). Not only is the book super fun, it's very timely. Technology is playing an ever-increasing role in our lives and kids are being encouraged to pursue interests in science/math/tech. This book is sure to please any child who is fascinated with sci-fi.
The book doesn't have much text, but the illustration is good. It also has a double cover and you can change the ending of the story by changing the cover which was very interesting to my 8 yr old. Will recommend.
