If you are new to Sabrina Ghayour, you must start with Persiana which I found a better cookbook. This cookbook came out afterwards, and contains alot of recipes which feel as if they were not good enough for Persiana. There are also alot more 'fusion food' recipes rather than real Persian cuisine. OK but not brilliant.
Have two more of Sabrina Ghayour's cook books and they are all excellent. Having a husband who likes atomic food, a daughter who likes spicy but not hot food and a son who would live on Ikea meatballs if we'd let him it can be difficult to find recipes that we will all eat. With these Middle Eastern/Iranian type recipes at least three out of the four of us are happy.
I am new to eastern cookery and I just love this book. The recipes are easy to follow and so full of flavour. Don't be put off by ingredients you haven't heard of - they are inexpensive and easily available from Amazon or health food shops.
Gorgeous book. The cover alone is a work of art. Flicked through it at a friend's house and wanted one for myself. I've made a couple of the things and they're absolutely delicious. Be warned - you're not going to find a lot of these things as your regular supermarket, but Waitrose has it all (eg Pomegranate molasses).
Amazing - a fantastic follow-up to Persiana, sirocco keeps you turning through the recipes, wanting to cook more. It has a good spread of dish types too, so perfect for choosing a multi-course meal if cooking for friends or family.
Favourite recipes so far are the Georgian Chicken Stew and the stir fried Tangy Prawns - the style of recipes and flavours remind me of Ottolenghi, though without the endless lists of ingredients and specialities. Almost everything I've cooked from this has ingredients that I've been able to find in my local big supermarket.
A beautiful book which has introduced me to lots of new flavours and combinations. I'd never heard of pomegranate molasses before, but now I have it from Sainsbury's, I find it very versatile and add it in to lots of different things, from pasta to elderflower cordial. Yum!
I made the apricot and fennel lamb lollipops. I was a little surprised to see the recipe said 50g fennel seeds!! This is a very large amount and would make the finished dish inedible! I used far less and it was still too much. As my title says, Kindle editions of cookbooks need proper proofreading. I'm glad I bought the book on offer, as this has put me off making anything else from the book.
I love this book so much and all of Sabrina's recipes. Completely opened up a whole new cuisine for me and I just love every dish. Will eventually get round to the new book Feasts, but more than happy with this in the mean time!
