My two and a half year old niece is absolutely in love with the Lion Guard and there are not too many products available yet ahead of its Disney Channel premier so I was excited to find a few books were already available.
It's a very paper thin book and as indicated by the 'World of Reading' affiliation is a perfect simple reading book for any child just beginning to read. If you're unfamiliar with how the levels work, they begin with 'Pre-1' which is aimed at pre school age for a 'reader in training'. Level 1 is identified as simple text and word repetition, ideal for a school starter really. There are no more than two sentences per page.
My niece is obviously not quite there yet but loves listening to the story and looking at the beautiful illustrations through out. The story is adapted from an episode from the TV show so it is not an original story. There are some animal facts thrown in on the back page, which I thought were cute and the Swahili phrases the characters use in the TV show are translated into english as a little 'buzz' fact on some of the pages.
My only word of caution is the overtly thin nature of the book. We like to really look after our books but this one proves quite the challenge as I anticipate it could get easily trampled on or torn.
All in all, a lovely short and affordable book. A perfect treat for somebody starting out reading by themselves or for any child who adores the Lion Guard.
My three year old is a huge fan of Lion Guard. This book in an awesome addition to our collection with great pictures and an easy to read story. The only downfall is having to read it three times before bed😆
My 2 year old daughter LOVES this book! She actually asks to sleep with it some nights lol. It's the perfect length because it doesn't drone on forever and it's long enough to be a quality story. The pictures are very cute and on each page they have an african saying that they teach you.
Cute book. At the price of $3.99, this is a no-brainer! My 3-year-old son loves the Lion Guard and Bunga, so this was a perfect book for him. It recaps the episode, which he loves. I like that it includes a few definitions for the Swahili terms used in the book/show in some of the page corners (zuka zama, hevi kabisa, and hapana). We had actually already looked up these definitions and found a nice article explaining them, but it’s nice to have the definitions integrated with the story throughout the book. It is a small-sized paperback book with 32 pages, each page has about two sentences. It’s a nice length and easy read that holds my 3-year-olds attention.
