This short novella was fantastic! Filled with all the beauty of the world of the Wrath and the Dawn, but with a much more enticing romance than that of Khalid and Shahrzad - this is the story of Despina and Jalal.
Although this story is set before the events of the Wrath and the Dawn, it is much better placed after reading the first book to fully appreciate these characters and their stories (particularly as there are two little spoilers for the first book in there!). Despina and Jalal have a funny but utterly romantic love story - it's perfect. Filled with banter, snide comments and cheeky flirtations rather than a bunch of silly words and mushy nonsense; I adore them.
Interestingly this book is set in the reign of Ava, Khalids first wife, so we get to see her story much clearer than in the first book which I also enjoyed.
This was my favourite of all the novellas for this series. I loved seeing how Jalal and Despina's relationship developed. I love Despina's reaction to Jalal's cheesy flirting and the way it developed was actually adorable.
The only reason it didn't get the full 5 stars was because I wished we saw more of the actual love affair (no joke, I would read an entire companion novel about these two because they are so cute) but I really loved the end with Despina declaring that her child would bow to no-one.
Really really enjoyed this, definitely my favourite of all of the novella's. I loved that we got to see more from two of my favourite characters from this wonderful world. This really added a lot of depth to their development. It was wonderful to see more of Jalal and Despina's relationship and how it all started.
This was a great short insight into two wonderful side characters from the Wrath and the Dawn. It whets my appetite for the next book, which can't come too soon. It was just a little too short. Renee Ahdieh is one of my favourite new discoveries in terms of new authors.
"When a ray of afternoon sun struck its surface, the flash of light drew him toward her, like a moth to a flame." (Pos. 178)
"The Moth and the Flame" ist eine weitere ebook-Short Story zu Renée Ahdiehs zweiteiliger Reihe "The Wrath and the Dawn" und "The Rose and the Dagger".
Die Geschichte spielt vor "The Wrath and the Dawn".
Recomendo ler imediatamente após o livro #1 The Wrath and the Dawn. Super recomendo a leitura... quero maaais Despina e Jalal!
