4.0 out of 5 starsAgni Mitra is all set to find the killer is the story all about The best part of the book is it’s not gripping but ...

The story starts with an HR Person being murdered at a toilet after an office party, where all the guest are being held as a suspects, but what happens when such series are frequently repeated but a different crime scene with twist. Is there a serial killer on Loose ??? where Mr. Agni Mitra is all set to find the killer is the story all about

The best part of the book is it’s not gripping but interesting that as a reader I want to know what will happen in the next part. I loved Agni Mitra as a character. Even I loved the killer and the way author has described both the version makes it more interesting.

The flaws in the book is its predictable ending and I didn’t want the killer profile to be revealed so early. Apart from that I have no issues.

In The Shadows of Death – Case Solved!!!! ( go for it if you want murder thriller)

3.0 out of 5 starsCan be read but not the end; that kicks off the book.
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 6 July 2018
A book I picked up off pure hunch and read after a long time post purchase. No regrets for buying the book and reading it, of course.
The story is about a homicide secret, a person who kills women for a personal, wise, reasons. Detective Agni takes the case and with quite some difficulty to relate the murders and motives, resolves the puzzle and catches the murderer
The story does have a good start, carries along well however the flaws in the book is its predictable ending and while the connections between the murders are made by Detective Agni, the murdered is simply relieved with no much of thrill or brain game. Here the author has given away the whole of his good work all thru the book.
A pass time read but not to expect it to be a great thriller, I still rate is better as I liked the way the author carried the story for quite some time and I reduce the rating for being so predictable and not to the mark ending of the book.
I will pick up another book of the author, thou I am not going to have higher expectations for now.

Perceptive Reader
4.0 out of 5 stars Down those dark paths!
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 3 December 2019

The novel begins with a murder, predictably. But from that point onwards it becomes a beautiful but well-paced exploration of lust, love, regret and memories.
Although the protagonist is a Police Officer cut out from established noir cloth, the novel is not a police procedural. Instead it works superbly as a psychological thriller. While talking about motives and movements of various suspects, it slowly takes the reader along a dark path. As a result, we start asking ourselves some uncomfortable questions. At the end we try to answer those questions rather indulgently, but the doubt persists.
And the wait for next 'Agni Mitra mystery' begins right there!

3.0 out of 5 stars Runs out of steam

Begins well, with the writer cutting to the chase instead of beating around the bush. Overall, it’s gripping and narrating the story from both a third person view as well as a first person account of the culprit keeps the mystery in the balance. However, the story loses its thrill towards the end, with the revelation being drab, and a total let-down. The protagonist focuses on the suspects way too much, and the author has added elements, which could have been avoided, just to keep the story going. A good read, nevertheless but not a masterpiece.

However there is nothing new in the story
But it has been executed in an interesting manner. The thing is it doesnt get boring to read. The writer however forgot to elaborate the reason or cause why the killer was killing everyone. Why he was into serial killing could have made it a better read.
Read it its not bad

4.0 out of 5 stars Racy thriller, simply unputdownable

Well to be honest the rating would have been 4.5, had there been an option here for the same!
This is one of the books which I have added to my favorites list already....The pace of the story is never faltering and kept up the interest quotient all throughout. The characterizations were all up there, at par with what we expect and experience in the best selling authors' works in the thriller/Detective genre. The Detective is all blood and flesh with no hypersensitive deduction skills and is rendered much more realistic. In particular I loved how the author delved into the human psyche and used it as the basis for the protagonist's theories. The usage of non-linear story-line in parts works hugely in favor of the book as well.
This is a riveting first novel of what is surely going to spawn a successful series for Agni Mitra's exploits!

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked the story

I liked the story. What I liked the most is the space for the story of the villain towards the end. Generally authors do not give much footage to the villain, though he is the main character to whom the audience look forward to in murder mysteries as his identity is revealed only in the climax.

I personally feel the psychopath murderer could have been given a more prominent role in the main story so that it could have a shocker for the reader.

It Sourabh's first book and I am sure Agni Mitra would face more gripping challenges in the journey ahead. I am looking forward to the next story.

Wishing you good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece thriller by Sourabh Mukherjee

In the Shadows of Death by Sourabh Mukherjee was one of the thrillers which stood apart personally for me for the following reasons:
1. The story dwindled between the normal style font unfolding the story and the italicized font pages. I was devouring the italicized font pages, had to restrain and show patience not to jump the gun. The mosquito page was my favorite.
2. It connected so well with the IT / BPO industry and the good and bad aspects which form ingredients of the industry culture.
3. For someone who is from Kolkata, you can definitely relate going around the city in the conquest of solving the mystery.
4. The emotions of love, lust, hatred, fear, adulteration, deceit came out so vividly.
Wish I could write more, but just want to be conscious of not being a "spoiler".
Sourabh Mukherjee - It was indeed a very special treat for the readers and looking forward for more of these best sellers in the coming years.

5.0 out of 5 stars An edge-of-the seat thriller, a masterpiece

A reader's delight to be precise....crisp and fast-paced yet well composed...it is not just a trivial crime thriller...the author
portrais the finnesse the obvious fallouts of today's materialistic urban life and
society, its turmoils and fragility of relationships, explores the devils within our mind
that actually leads us to commit crime through the analytical eyes and mind of Agni who
himself is battling loneliness of a life past separation with his own wife...loved the way
how Sourabh has put forward the conflicts of Agni's inner core and how he eventually
surmounts that to catch hold of the mastermind....a magnum opus indeed which brings us
to the edge of our curious mind....would definitely look forward eagerly to your next one
Sourabh....advanced best wishes to him for the same.
