The reason I am not happy with this app, is because on the staff of many of the pieces, the odd lines are missing, here and there, also some of the notes are without their downward or upward "stick" especially on the crotchets - hardly a good way to help easy recognition, making for good and enjoyable practise, especially if one is not too proficient. Should it be possible to re-send the app (making sure that the printing is there in its entirety). I would be happy to retract my statement and my heading. As it stands, it's just not worth the price it commands.
Sorry about that, but that is how it shows on my Amazon Fire HD10 Kindle in portrait mode, and that is very off-putting.
I would be pleased to hear from you regarding this matter. Chris Peel
There are lots of familiar melodies in this book, and learning to play them has pushed me to improve. They range from fairly easy to fairly difficult (for someone who learned descant/soprano recorder at school, and has - in middle age - recently taken up alto/treble) but they are not presented in order of difficulty. Not a book for absolute beginners, but once you are confident with the basics this is a way to extend your range playing pieces from famous composers.
Thank you for producing such an amazing book. I have just started to play the alto (treble) recorder after a gap of over 30 years. This book has the most brilliant introductory pages - "Playing Guide" - explaining all the symbols to learn to read music and a fingering chart for the alto. The beautiful, classical pieces (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss etc) really do have simple arrangements. There are some gems here - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Für Elise, The Blue Danube... This book does 'what is says on the tin' and more!!!!!
If you are an adult learning a musical instrument, its almost impossible to find music that treats the student as an adult. Most books offer nursery rhymes, big print, and childish instructions. This one is written for adults and older students and proves that it is possible to produce a book for a beginner student that treats that student as an intelligent adult. This is a good selection of music, getting progressively more difficult and challenging, and tise adaptation to the Kindle format has been done with a certain amount of consideration as it is possible to read a whole page on a laptop without having to stop and turn the page after every 2 lines of music, as has happened with other Kindle versions of music books. However its not possible to print out an individual page so that it can be highlighted or annotated, so I would still recommend getting a hard copy that can be photocopied to help with learning any of the pieces. The inability to print is the reason why this review has 3 stars instead of the 5 it deserves. Until Amazon learns that the ability to print out a page can be essential in a text-book, and sheet music is a text book, most of their text-books are a waste of money. This book is useful as a backup copy on a laptop or computer, but useless if you are using an e-reader or tablet as the print out will be too small if you want to view the whole page, and if you make the print larger, you have to stop playing and turn pages as you go. I would recommend going for the hard copy as its not really suitable as a text-book to learn from unless you can sight-read well and already know the pieces and have someone to turn the page for you.
