Essentially this kit will extend battery life. It includes an AC wall adapter, perfect for indoor use or when you have no AA batteries laying around. Kit includes a two-way splitter cable, microphone attenuation cable, a large furry windscreen and a USB cable for interfacing with your computer. This cabling setup worked on my older Canon SL2 and newer Canon M50 when using the Zoom H4N Pro as an external microphone source. A necessity and a worthwhile investment, in my opinion!
Everything works great except for the attenuator cable. We recorded a live show and when we reviewed the footage, the audio was coming out as mono, only from the right channel. The left channel was making a hissing noise.
It took me a long time to figure out that it was the attenuator cable that was defective. Once I switched to a different cable, my DSLR was picking up both the left and right microphones.
For the amount of money we paid, I would have hoped that everything in the kit worked. WIth COVID-19 happening, live shows are rare. We couldn't get good audio out of that gig because of a defective cable.
For that reason, I can only give it 3 stars. If the cable worked, I would definitely give this product 5 stars.
I do love all the Zoom products. We have an H4N pro and a Livetrak L-20R. I just wish that they have better quality control on their accessories.
Ended up returning it because the attenuator cable was useless to me. It's way too long and bulky, and I just need a short cable to have the microphone mounted on the camera. Also if I want to record a scene with the zoom closer to me I'd rather just record audio independently and sync than to mess up with long cables. The cable also seems generic and not of outstanding quality. Splitter and usb cables are also cheap and generic. The AC power works great and the device automatically switches between batteries and AC power without restarting, which is pretty well designed. The deadcat feels like good quality, I believe it is the WSU-1 but again no branding on this one. I would have kept the kit just for the deadcat but 55 cad is a lot and I don't like paying for stuff I don't use so I just returned the box and got another deadcat and better attenuator cable. Still great value if you're gonna be using all the stuff in the box.
I have been playing music but never bother to do any recording. The amazing thing is that this unit can actually do 4 tracks and also can be mounted on my camera. So it is suitable for my purpose. The rest you can read the various Youtubers that have done extensive testing reviews.
