This novel has such a unique plot and story line - I liked the Duchess in the first novel of the series but in her own story she grows into a truly believable character - in an era when young 18 year olds are on the marriage mart and 26 year olds are considered spinster it must have been difficult for a woman who is still young to be treated like she doesn't feel anymore - I liked that this issue is put forward in this novel - I liked the romance that develops between Graciela and Colin but I'm sure it would have been disturbing to the family if it wasn't fiction
A wonderful story of a young widow, a dowager from Spain, who was married to a terrible womanizer English duke. Ten years had passed since his death and being still young she finds herself looking for company in a naughty place and gets entangled with her stepson's best friend, She fights the mutual attraction but he is very dashing and persistent.
This was the first time reading a Sophie Jordan and I was impressed by the author's smooth writing style and fast moving story. Graciela, our heroine, is a 36 year old titled widow with a daughter and two stepchildren from her loveless marriage to a Duke. Her friend suggests she meet a suitable older man for an affair but instead she finds herself in the arms of her stepson's best friend, Colin. Of course Colin is a scandalous 29 and she knew him when he was a kid but it's presented in a sweet way- Colin never had a family and Graciela was in an almost abusive type relationship with her late husband. Overall it was a super read.
