4.0 out of 5 starsA story which shows who is a real hero
Reviewed in India on 11 March 2017
I am a book worm once, having more than 200 books in my book shelf, introduction of internet , facebook etc reduced my reading habit. Last week when am browsing my facebook page, I saw some link shared by my friend, woman's day offer by Amazon, I checked the author name, he is Ajay K Pandey. My friend is very much craze over is writing, I always I used to wonder why women are so much craze over his writing!!!!! So just decided to read his novel and find out the reason. Immediately I ordered the book in Amazon, Kindle store, while ordering am bit confused whether to try his first book or second book,  but the title " Her Last Wish" attracted me more, so I decided to try this book first. Within a minute of ordering, the book reached my e-library. I started reading the book.

I am a very busy women who is always busy with office, home, kids, Just casually started reading this book while eating my food, but I don't have heart to put it down, I continued reading it during one hour of  travel to my office ( having kindle app in mobile helped me) , become busy in office, even then my mind wanted to read it, somehow controlled my mind and involved in office work, then again while having lunch, continued to read the story, again while returning to home, while preparing dosa for everyone in home for dinner, all the time I had mobile in hand reading this book.

I loved the theme of the story very much.  I don't want to compare his writing style with anyone else, each one is unique in their own way. He seems to be a very casual writer and he used very simple common english words, so even those who are having average English knowledge can enjoy this story.

HIV and AIDS are different!!!!! I astonished to read this information. My brother and his wife are doctors, but I don't know this information. So I enquired with them and they confirmed that it is true. Important informations won't reach the public when it is conveyed just as an information. So he beautifully incorporated informations about HIV, he cleared common man's basic doubts about HIV and AIDS, how we should treat HIV infected persons, everything clearly explained.

I am great fan of romantic novels, especially tamil romantic novels by few women authors,  in those novels always hero used to be portrayed so high, very confident, rich etc etc., so introduction of hero in this story as an average man, who faced failures in his life boggled me. But this is the truth, author made us understand that a hero need not be like someone whom we see in movies or in romantic novels, but an ordinary man who loves his girl so much and who is ready to anything for her.

So after reading this novel, I found out the answer for the question in  my mind, why he is having more women fans and why my friend is very much craze over his writing!!!! I think it is due to the characterisation of hero, his wife's blood result showed HIV positive and his result is HIV negative,  but even then he didn't doubt her, so his faith over his wife even in that situation, raised him to a great hero, every woman wants a hero like him in her life, faith is the basement for any strong relationship.

So now I planned to read author's first novel, I hope that I will like it too.

3.0 out of 5 starsBook Review : Her Last Wish
Reviewed in India on 20 March 2017
Her Last wish is an inspiring book about a patient who is HIV positive and how it affects her family, and everything around her.
The struggle of patients who have HIV is real. Since majority of population still doesn't understand the disease, they treat the victim as an untouchable.
I commend the author on picking up such an important social issue and presenting it in an entertaining way.
The book is not a 'preacher', it's an emotional one.
Since it's written from Vijay's POV, whose wife gets HIV and is dying, this also makes it sort of a love story.
I liked all the things he did for her because that made him not only a good husband but also a better man. It made him overcome the feeling of disappointment that he had caused his parents during his life.
Moreover the writing style is wonderful and it made me feel connected with the story.
There was one thing that I didn't like and that was the interruption of flow.
The story would be going at a steady pace with all its twists and turns but sudden change in POV, and certain unnecessary paragraphs of motivational writing just made me dislike the book a little bit.
Overall it was an interesting read and informative as well.

Review

This is the first book of 2021 which made me very emotional and heartbreaking at the same time, the story of Vijay and Astha touched my heart's core.

I would appreciate the author as he has written a Marvelous one and it deserves to be on the big screen.

In the book, the author has written about the realities of HIV patients and also mentioned about the cheap thrills of government hospitals of India.

The story is very gripping and touched my heart and can be read in one go but I read in two because I had to other works.

The language is lucid and narration is amazing, I became a fan of the author and from now on I will read all his works.

I would recommend this book to every reader who loves books.

📝Book Review : Her Last Wish (2017) by Ajay K Pandey
✴️Pages : 207
✴️Price : ₹175
✴️Genre : Domestic fiction
This books tells about a mild main character Vijay getting married to a out-of-a-dream-perfect character, Astha. What led to such a marriage is beautifully explained like how it happens most of the time. Love & sacrifice going together hand in hand as it happens in real life.
Life as it happens turns out for unseen tragedy as Astha got diagnosed as HIV positive.
You would have start thinking by now this novel is just like any other story dealing with the same old dilemma & issues that usually goes with HIV.
But heck, I was bowled over by how the author gives certain facts right. No other so called authors of today have dealt with such a sensitive issue with such tact & sensitivity.
I just love the way how the character revolves from someone who was no one in his own eyes to someone who could do anything for his better half.
How he earned his wife's trust until her dying moment touched my heart which left me sobbing like a lost kid at the end of this book.
The love-hate relationship between the family has been described so well.
👎However, accepting someone blindly without knowing anything is not that easy as has been portrayed.
👎And throwing away everything on a new research for some unknown 'antibiotic' for a viral infection. Well... I seriously cannot accept this even as a fiction thing.
But it is a good read overall.
So many misconceptions will clear up regarding HIV/AIDS. 👍Educative, romantic, thought provoking!

The cover of the book is a digital image of a guy, kissing his girl and they definitely look like a happy couple.

This is a story about a father and his son on whom he sets a lot of expectations. Instead of boosting up his son’s energy with his inspiring words, he shatters him by giving nothing but pressure. His son tastes the failure in each and every step he takes and regrets everything in his life.

4.0 out of 5 stars A soft, touching and entertaining read.
Reviewed in India on 5 January 2017

The book is a heartwarming story of a young couple in love. Morals, love, sacrifice and feelings: these are the primary components of this book.

The protagonist, Vijay, is a hopeless man. His wife was diagnosed with AIDS and the efforts he tried making won our hearts. Despite every negativity surrounding his wife's disease, he made sure to comfort his wife in the difficult phase. His portrayal describes an ideal husband.

The book has a constant element of pain. The author's simple writing piles up the emotion. Consider this simple, yet touching line, while deciding the baby's name-

"My Mind said, Aprajita means a winner. Astha will go down as a winner" (Page-180)

Even simple lines like these imply deep and painful meanings when you flow with the story. Apart from the lead characters, the readers will find the supporting characters penned down equally beautiful.

The kind of love described in the book gives the reader a touching view of what love actually can be. The emotions of this book are tear-demanding ones.

The narration and language part is beautifully done. The title is catchy and meaningful, though the book cover could have been unique. The plot is well woven and makes the reader stick to the story. The book is a page turner.

Overall, a soft, touching and entertaining read.

Mutahar
5.0 out of 5 stars Not reading this book, you will be missing a masterpiece of Ajay K Pandey
Reviewed in India on 14 September 2019

The End of any books from Ajay K Pandey touches the soul and this one is a masterpiece. ‘Her Last Wish’ is one such book which i could read it again and again and not get bored. It’s all about Love, Sacrifice, Family, struggles faced by HIV patients. The quotes ‘Love is blind’ is proven to be true in this wonderful book. One would easily get lost while reading it.

Although the start of the book is a little drag describing about the protagonist Vijay’s life how he has been a failure in life wasting 5 years of his adulthood trying to clear the IAS exam to fulfill his Father’s dream yet failing every year and finally gives up his hope. His mother somehow uses her influence and gets him admitted in a college as a assistant professor. At this moment, Astha enters in Vijay’s life being his reason to relive again. They both gets into Indian ritual of Arranged Marriage. Astha is totally opposite of Vijay, she is energetic, lives every moment to the fullest, yet one thing that haunts her is being a illegitimate child. As time passes by they both share a bond of love and whenever Astha gets upset being a illegitimate child, vijay could console her saying being illegitimate is not a fault of her but the fault of her parents. As life flows smoothly Vijay gets one phone call from a blood camp where Astha had donated blood a few days back changes their whole life, it took him a while to sink in what he heard, she has been diagnosed as HIV positive. Vijay was shocked and shattered by the phone call, yet he chose to hide it from Astha.

The whole plot of the books changes from there and it’s so gripping and realistic, one just can’t put down the book. The author had done a beautiful job to throw light on a very sensitive topic and gives a lot of information about how HIV is carried to a person, what could be the reason, how can one be treated, the difficulties faced by such patients all together brings tears to the reader.

Now Vijay hunts to discoverer all the possibilities to save love of his life (Astha). He eventually finds out it’s a terminal disease and love is the only cure (mentally). Also he comes across 7 wishes that Astha had, which are practically impossible for a middle class guy to fulfill it. Yet he goes to prove it wrong as he fulfills her wishes one after another even without the knowledge of Astha, how he does that is truly admirable to what extend one can go to keep his love (wife) happy for eternity.

I recommend this book to everyone to read it at least once in a lifetime, you won’t regret taking up this book. The narration is simple, each characters play a good role, plays with our emotions, many beautiful quotes are been used at the right situation and one such quote which i loved personally is below:

“Always try to represent yourself as ‘Happy‘ , because initially it becomes your ‘Look‘ , gradually it becomes your ‘Habit‘ , and one day, it becomes your ‘Personality‘ “
–Astha Sharma (Her last wish)
