I live in a coastal city notorious for 2 things : It never rains and on the rare occasion when it does, it brings a Sound and Light Show. More of sound and a few of lightning. Every year it has become a routine for us to change half a dozen NIC (network interface cards) amongst other electric equipment. We tried every trick in the engineering field and still the casualties kept occurring. We rigged the supply points with MOV suitably rated which saved us some appliances all right. But the sensitive electronics still needed robust protection from the mains supply point itself. A 4 pole Surge Protection Device was what we needed. These devices are very expensive in India until Amazon sailed in. FEEO SPD costs about one fourth of the nearest competitor and it is readily available. We checked the specification and it was very impressive : Max. Discharge Current Imax (8/20s) kA: 40 Response Time (ns): ˂ 25 Operating Volt: 380 V
We carefully fitted these SPDs after the mandatory suitably rated MCBs. We are waiting for the next monsoon to know the results.
Looks like made in China; but it is alright. Hope it will protect my house from some electrical surges. I have to wait for thunderstorm to verify the effectiveness of the unit. Even if it has only some MOVs, it will help during lighning.
