I have been reading Madeleine L'Engle since seventh grade and her nonfiction for more years than I can remember. I collected the Crosswicks books one by one, and then the later released TWO-PART INVENTION. I love Madeleine's combination of introspection and thoughts on religion and the nature of God. I have used THE IRRATIONAL SEASON as a reader during Lent and Advent. So glad to see they are available as e-books. Even though I have hard copies, I bought the e-books so I can have them with me all the time.
This was a fascinating read. I learned so much about the author, her personal life story, family, husband and spirituality. It was quite the awakening. It changed my perspective on life and it's meaning. It got me to thinking. And definitely expanded my vocabulary. She always challenges her readers which is a good thing. Now I want to read everything she ever wrote. The reading started because I adopted a Samoyed puppy and the theme was A Wrinkle in Time. I then read the series of five books. The dogs are all called Double Helix which is referred to in this set of stories. I was expected to stay with the theme. So I did. My girl is Truth is Eternal. I love the writings of Madeleine L' Engle.
So encouraging, so real. One of the things I love most is her willingness to be transparent. No she isn't always filled with faith. Yes sometimes she wants to chuck it all. Just like all the rest of us. But because she doesn't pretend or leave out the struggle in the middle or share only the top of mountain moments, it is a dialogue that actually is encouraging and helpful. Simply couldn't recommend more.
I’ve loved L’Engles books since I was a child. Now I’ve found more to love. I deeply identify with her faith, her reflections, her voice. I will read these journals many times more, and I’ve already shared them with kindred spirits.
