This is the first work of fiction I have read by Ms. Didion. It was a depressing read. The plot, if there was one, did not make sense. I will stick to reading Ms. Didion`s nonfiction. Her writing has a rhythm and lyricism that I did not find in her fiction.
The concept and story idea behind the book intrigued me. Also the fact that it is written in a stream of consciousness was a high point. However the ennui of the main character was the whole book. I felt nothing when there could have been more. I could have felt sadness when she took care of her problem. Anger in the way women were treated. Worry with actions. But since it was from the main characters point of view and she just stopped with life those emotions are lost.
