As good as non-refurbished one
21 January 2020
Just got the refurbished white one, 1 hour ago (manufacturing date of 2017). So this is my initial review, if I don’t update my review that means everything went smooth.
I already have a ‘black’ paperwhite 7th gen, which I brought in 2016. So I know what to expect from this device plus I can compare the refurbished one to spot any issues in the refurbished one.
Result: the refurbished one is identical to the non-refurbished one which I bought at full list price.
The only question is, How good is the battery health? This only time will tell.
Before ordering this refurb one, I was concerned on the following issues(picked it up from other reviewers):
1. Uneven LED light bleed at the bottom of the screen — there is negligible light bleed in both units of mine at almost max brightness. Not an issue to me as I rarely cross level 7 brightness.
2. Display panel issue : There is chance of grey lines showing up on the screen - the unit delivered to me had no issue.
3. Concern : “Not a refurbished at all, some used one is sent to me without even cleaning” - nope, as good as new. Not a scratch and a cleanest unit delivered.
4. Chip level issue, system will hang and needs constant resetting - I read some 10 pages of a book, software got updated and did couple of locks and opening of the system, looks good so far.
During holidays my kids and me were competing to get our hands on kindle, so we had a need for another one at home. I did the math and to get a 300 PPI display you are looking at north of Rs 8500, so I took a gamble on this Rs 6500 unit and wow did it deliver value.
One additional bonus, the non-refurb and new paper white are bundled with a 3 month Kindle Unlimited offer for only Rs 2. I did not find the offer on the refurbished one on the product page.but to my pleasant surprise I got an email now offering me to unlock the Rs 2 offer. I couldn’t be more happier (effective cost turns out to 6k for this unit)
