A large, non-themed anthology of horror and weird fiction, which for me had a far higher strike rate of brilliant stories than most. Indeed, the contents list reads like a who's who of US small-press horror (sadly little representation of other nationalities, including the UK). It would be exceeding hard to pick even five or six tales that stood above the rest, the quality was that high. My short-list would at least include stories from [deep breath] Kurt Fawver; A.C. Wise; Michael Wehunt; Damien Angelica Walters; Sunny Moraine; Simon Strantzas; Kristi DeMeester; Scott Nicolay; S.P. Miskowski; Christopher Slatsky; Nadia Bulkin, and Gemma Files. Trying to whittle it down to any less than that would be tough.
All in all, a fine new anthology - here's to Volume 2.
More more more! I've been looking for an anthology like this since reading a few other similar ones over the past year. Most were just ho-hum. This book was exactly what I'd hoped for. A bunch of strange, weird, dark, disturbing or even strangely elevating stories that carry you far from your mundane existence into other worlds. I liked quite a few of the stories, including (probably my favorite) "the Convexity of our Youth" , "We are all Bones Inside, and "Outside, a Drifter". If you liked Eichmans Heirs, or Gutted, you will love this volume.
