Abhishek Debnath
2.0 out of 5 starsClichéd, pretentious
Reviewed in India on 11 May 2019
Very old and stale and clichéd philosophy has been served in a well-marketed hardcover. The writer duo pretends like they have "discovered" the idea themselves for the first time in history and doing a service to the mankind in such selfless fashion by writing the book, but truth be told, there is nothing new or novel in the book. Now my dear fellow reader, do "The One Thing" yourself, give this book a pass and read something more substantial, like Jordan B Peterson's "12 Rules for Life" and thank me later.

Btw, if you are so eager to know the whole substance of the book in one sentence here it goes: If you want to be successful in your endeavor then don't scatter your mind and work into various direction but keep just one thing in your mind, have a focused and singular attention to your goal only, and that's it.

What an unique idea, right?

This is one of my favorite books.Helped me to find my One Thing. Also, it will help you to cut down your clutter to stay focused on doing one thing at a time. After reading this book, I'm able to prioritize my things and able to avoid distractions as well. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to find their one thing.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very old, dirty book has been delivered to me
Reviewed in India on 22 May 2021

This is a product review rather than a book review. The book that has been delivered to me is very old and dirty and has been in shelf for a long time. I am buying books for decades, and I can tell with absolute certainty that this book has been in stock for a long time.

The cover is dirty and old. The camera could not fully capture what I am seeing with my eyes.

The inside of the book is fine and like new, but the cover is worn out. I am sure it was not kept properly inside a polythene pack. The book arrived bare as well. No polythene packaging.

The book is small and goodlooking with an interesting form factor.

I dislike the self-help industry with passion, but this book not like the others and gives non-mainstream advice.

I have ever only liked self-help books from Cal Newport. I am liking this one, too.

The delivery was prompt and swift but did not have bubble wrapts inside the packet.

This is not a regular worthless self help book like The Monkey who Sold Her Lamborghini.

This book has changed my life in a way I cannot describe. It has made me more productive and given me the mindset to achieve more by doing less. I wish I could explain what I meant, but you'll just have to take my word and read it to know what I mean. Go for it.

Mayank Mishra
5.0 out of 5 stars good book for PHD Students
Reviewed in India on 12 December 2020

Key takeaways:
-The book is one of the best books and to the point of focussing on your one thing. For example; your one thing could be novel writing, so focus on time blocking and remove all distractions during that time.
-Incremental improvements are the key when we look for long time benefits. Even the task is huge but you work every day that ultimately it is done. For example, in Ph.D. thesis writing; the moment we add one reference it means work has started, then over a period of months one becomes 100 and we have a perfect literature review.
-For PhD Students; instead of focusing on 5 papers focus on 1 research publication and make it the best. You might receive from that paper most of your citations than all 4-5 combined.
-Quality job needs intense focus. If we focus on a narrow area; we became experts in that, instead of trying everything and good for nothing.
-Best for: Students, People who want to achieve some goal (could be health, money, time management, research)
-80/20 principle is explained here; which is basically 20% of work leads to 80 results. Chose the right input; which creates most of the output.
-Work in batches; for example, emails/updates from social handles can be checked together rather than checking each hour.
-We don’t have infinite willpower, use that wisely. Finish the important tasks; start of the day/when you are most focussed. Do not waste that time in responding to emails and chatting.
-Every illustration that the author has used to explain concept is GOLD ! Simple black and white drawing to explain a complex problems.
-TAGLINE: What's the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?
All the Best: Dr Mayank Mishra (Author Diary of a PhD Student).

5.0 out of 5 stars One Thing (This Book) Has Now Sticked to My Mind

What an amazing book? Pages are narrow so i first thought what kind of details it would have but after i read first chapter and then continued, it started to feel like there is a lot more to take on from every single page and i discovered that its way more helpful than i ever thought of it. I already finished 100 pages in one sitting and i am writing this feedback on my second day reading this book. Just follow all the advice and you will gain confidence and clarity that this one thing will work for sure in your stunning success in every area of life.

Those who are in search of a good book, definitely go with this one and i am sure you will come back here to write your feedback in the middle of reading as i did.

I will also consider giving this book as a gift to my friend and family on occasion to help them change their life and become successful.

Thank you very much to Amazon for providing this book and it's my pleasure today to write this feedback.
