Top critical review
Misses the point entirely. Poor unimaginative writing.

It turns out that Elon Musk is incredibly articulate and persuasive about his personal history and worldviews. It is one of the many ways in which he is successful. You can hear him speak, read what he has said and written, and peruse the plethora of articles about him on Quora and elsewhere. You will really learn a lot.
Someday, the real biography of Musk will be written. The writer should ideally capture the true story of how Elon Musk did what he (and his colleagues & employees) have done. There must be a few common threads and defining patterns that are the key to recurring, continued success.
I didn't think it would be possible to write a boring, tacky book about this man, but Ashlee Vance has done the impossible. The entire book is written like a dry newspaper article, as a series of "this happened, then this, then this, then this ........" Yawn. The book simply lacks any kind of structure or coherence; it fails to provide any sense of the extraordinary feats achieved by this evergreen young man. And it gets nowhere close to the heart of the matter: why has *he* been successful when anyone else would surely have failed.
Rather ironically, Ashlee Vance and his publisher are laughing all the way to the bank with this rushed and highly mediocre "biography", and doing nothing but piggybacking on the mojo of their subject.
