A fantastic and beautifully presented book. If you're a fan of the US based TV show Fixer Upper, starring the author and her husband and want to get that particular look then this is the book for you. Broken down into individual chapters, covering entrance halls to bathrooms and everything in between this book had hundreds of quality photographs to inspire and entertain. We’ve even left it on the coffee table for visitors to browse, it really is that good.
Even though the photography in this book is really what sells it - some great images of interiors for inspiration - it was the text which was thoroughly enjoyable, thoughtful and with practical information. There is a notes section and practical floor planning guide at the back of the book. An interior coffee table book which is also useful!
Love Fixer Upper, Joanna’s personality comes across in her writing just as much as it does on Tv and of course the pictures are stunning. Lots of great ideas to consider when planning and loving your home.
Gorgeous book to look, and very high quality printing and binding. The photos are lovely and the houses are stunning. The tone of the writing is charming and inspiring. There is perhaps not as much actual constructive and helpful information as I was hoping for, hence 4 rather than 5*, but a lovely book nonetheless.
I am a total fan girl of Joanna, but this book left for more to be desired. Of course the spaces were beautiful but the book was more of a picture book / sample of Joanna's work than a guide. Yes there were a few pointers for each of the rooms, things to consider, but definitely far less than I expected from my experience with other style books. I would wait for this book to be available at your local library, instead of buying it.
Good job Joanna, it's not a book for the modern shinny minimalists prison/hospital style wannabe customer/designers , it's a book about what a home should be and a statement about the value of natural materials and the connection between us, the humans, and this planet, Earth. We tend to forget that we are a form of life that is forever connected with this planet and for us to be happy, we have to stay true to what mother Earth offered us long time ago: wood and stone and iron and clay and plants. And to call ourselves humans we also have to stay true to friendship, love, compassion, honesty, hard work, and truth. You showed us a very pleasant mix of how to put all these together and build a HOME FOR A FAMILY, not a prison of our vain desires. Thank you! I would've loved more stuff about the kitchen design but I am sure this it's coming very soon.
