This is one of the most amazing and beautiful books I have ever read. The words do magic in your life and they resonate with the higher truth in you. If you don't believe me, read it. This is one of those books you'd always want to be near. Love love love it so much.
As Eckhart freely admits, he's not teaching us anything we don't already know. However reading his words that cut through the fog of thought and emotion is like a meditation in itself. And I think that's what Eckart is intending with this collection of soundbites; rather than a read from cover to cover it is meant to be picked up and delved into so that it acts as a reminder, a prompter. As he said, once you're aware you're no longer presence you're in actual fact presence.
This author has (Eckhart Tolle) has quite a fan following and this 172 page soft cover volume (Oneness with all life: Inspirational selections from a new earth) has various inspirational quotes to meditate on taken from his best-selling book “New Earth.”
The ten sections cover the following material: Going beyond thought, the power of the present moment, who am I? Awakening, inner space, your life purpose, becoming present, consciousness, the inner body and oneness with all life. As someone quite familiar with numerous Asian philosophies such as Taoism and Zen, the material in this book did not impress me; however, for fans of Eckhart Tolle this is a text they will probably enjoy reading.
The Zen philosophical principles of “Living in the present” “Life is suffering and due to desiring material things” and “living life with purpose” are not new concepts. Those seeking enlightenment will never find it according to Zen precepts; however, it will not hurt to read some of the many other great books on Zen and Taoism in your search for living a purposeful life.
Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art and Warrior Haiku and Senryu).
This book explains how our minds keep us from experiencing the light. It shows the spiritual practice that we can perform to separate our spiritual selves from our mind. When we practice what is suggested we will be led out of the darkness of physical ignorance into the light of spiritual awareness.
If you are familiar with Tolle's work, the substance of this book is no different. The presentation however, is geared more towards casual quick reading. The subject matter is broken down in to smaller sections which make it easy to read and then contemplate. You don't feel compelled to read cover to cover. In fact Tolle recommends against it. Personally, I like the layout and the art. There is something calming and soothing about flipping through the pages of this book. My purchase was a self indulgent splurge. I would not recommend this book if you are looking for new information. This is more for your "feel good" book collection. If you do know someone who enjoys reading Tolle, this would make an excellent gift.
