You know when you finish a book and just want to hug it close? That's me after finishing this book.
It was just so utterly satisfying to read. It had fluff, romance, sexy times, drama and fun. I am so glad I read it and will happily read it again and again. I've never been disappointed by Tessa Dare and there was no concern that would happen here either. I loved reading Penny's story and she so deserved this book.
At the start you know little of Penny apart from her large collection of unwanted animals. From a goat to a dog with a cart due to his bag legs not working. There was an otter, a hedgehog, and a Highland steer. And let's not forget the parrot with the dirty mouth. But throughout the book you learn there is so much more to her. She is not naive and sheltered. And she doesn't need saving. She may have a soft spot for abandoned creatures but that's only as she feels a little adrift herself and needs someone to hold onto and help give her a focus and perfect. Luckily for her Gabe moves in next door and if there was ever a man in need of a little saving (and a whole lot of love) then it was him. And she needed the level of stubbornness and care he can provide too.
I love when a romance has sparks flying off the page as soon as the couple meet and we definitely have that in this book. I was also cracking up laughing throughout but especially at that first meeting. How could I not? It's that damned parrot. I adore the comedy value it added to every scene.
Look, I loved this book. It was absolutely genius and I cannot wait to read it again and again.
Gabe and Penny, two totally opposite people can really attract Penny who only trust's her three friends and animals, and Gabe Who distrust everyone except himself. This book has everything going for it, as usual in other books every character is brilliantly described and all these wonderful men and up falling for these adorable self sufficient women. The situation they get in, their personalities make you laugh, smile, feel sad for them and wish the best for them. The interaction between the men in these books and the women is brilliantly written. You can sense now they feel about each other. THERE HAS TO BE ONE MORE IN THIS SERIES. CAN'T WAIT.
I missed a good historical romance and Ms. Dare delivered!
I was pulled in from the beginning and couldn't stop laughing - let's just say I encountered the funniest parrot in literature.
Our heroine, Lady Penelope saves all the unwanted animals. She's in no hurry to settle down, get married and the hero, Gabriel wants to take advantage of that. That's how they strike a bargain, which doesn't necessarily goes as they wanted it to go.
It's really a book with a lot of funny scenes and hot ones too - swoony ones - and I recommend it to any historical romance lover. 4.5 stars.
I read this in a day and was sad when it ended. I love this series; pure escapism. The other two books are marvellous too. They are written to a formula I guess and so wouldn’t win literary prizes but she is such a witty, wonderful writer. You really believe in and like the characters. The dialogue is cracking; I laughed out loud at one point. Plus she writes really good sex scenes that manage to be romantic too. I’m so sad I’ll have to wait til she writes Nicola’s story.
A laugh out loud romantic and enterprising story. did not want it to end. Hard to put down read through to the end my children would look at me strangely when I chuckled out loud whilst reading.i have been thoroughly entertained with delightful humour and romance loved this book and will reread if I want my spirits to be uplifted at anytime.will be my go to book.
I loved this book, Penny was just such a lovely character, and Gabe, well what can I say, although he tried to be a tough guy, he's just a big softy underneath. Parts of this book had me in hysterics, especially that crazy parrot. Other parts were sad, but Penny and Gabe came through. Couldn't put this book down, brilliant read
Penny and Gabe were the perfect sunshine and grump trope which is one of my all time favourite tropes. I really like this series and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I also loved the moments and the friendship with the rest of the characters in the series, there was even more of that in this book than we've seen before which was so fun.
This is my favourite Tessa Dare book of all time. I thought the humour was hilarious, Penny is touching, as well as courageous and self actualising, Gabe is adorable. Chase and Ash worth the price of the book for their bit alone. Even if you think you are unsure about Dare, give this one a go.
Tessa Dare is the undisputed queen of historical romance. This book has everything I could want and more. The characters are engaging, brooding and strong. I loved that the main character would do anything for her family of unwanted animals. This book was full of humour and sensual romance. I would highly recommend the book and the author.
I found this a really good book. Penny is a really strong character. She has a heart of gold for all animals and takes in any whom need her help. Gabriel the Duke of Ruin is her new neighbour and has come a long way from his roots of the streets but he hates the aristocracy with a vengeance. Can penny soften his stone heart and accept her for who she is.
