4.0 out of 5 stars A look at others thoughts, should we think in that way?

What If Everybody Thought That? is a book that I thought we'd enjoy more than we did. The story shows a group of characters who all are doubtful and negative that are questioned as to what if everybody thought that where we get to see a more positive look and how it makes a difference.

The idea of this book is great but I think the way it is all written in speech bubbles gives the book less of a story feel to it and the children would have enjoyed it more had it read more like a story. The way it shows how positivity is a much better way to think I should very clever and gets the children thinking about what they think of the characters thoughts.

The illustrations are so lovely with fun and busy cartoons that really give a glimpse to how the characters are feeling. I think it's great that we got to see such a diverse range of characters but it would have been nice to get to know some of them more to help move the story along. This is a good book but we probably wouldn't reread it.

This book should be read by adults as well as children. We can alway use a little reminding. We may not be good at some things that others are, but it goes both ways.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed. The age this is recommended for is not accurate either

I was very disappointed with this book. I have the other 2 books in the series and use them ALL the time as a social worker, so I was excited to pre-order this one, but some of the thoughts themselves go a little too far. Maybe it depends on your population, but some of the thoughts seemed outdated with examples like "This isn't a race for special kids" and "He shouldn't be in this class." At my school, everyone comes and goes with different supports, and the kids don't really start noticing until maybe 4th-5th grade. So, to depict that type of thought at such a young age (3-7yrs per this listing), is unnecessary to me and could be placing those thoughts in their heads. The settings on each page are geared more towards upper levels as well (making the basketball team, what appears to be a middle school bathroom, a track meet. I plan to use this book with 4th or 5th grade if at all, but I definitely will be skipping over some things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to bigger topics

Great book for beginning to teach kids about the power of our automatic thoughts about others' disabilities or situations and how to combat them. Uses examples of kids in wheelchairs, eating "ethnic" food, and even kids with hair loss to introduce children to these topics without directly addressing bigger isms that parents can talk about later.

A wonderful message that was a little confusing in the way it was laid out and made the messages together not quite work with the outcome. It was an amazing thought process that had me struggling at times. Pictures were gorgeous and the message meaningful.
