The Vanderbeekers live in Harlem where they occupy two floors of an old brownstone. They and their neighbors form a wonderful community, helping each other and trying to improve their neighborhood. When Mrs. Vanderbeeker's home baking business is closed down because of violations of city regulations, the children come up with a plan to fix things. In the meantime, someone keeps leaving homeless animals on their doorstep.. The parents make it clear that they can't keep all of the rescued animals, which include kittens, guinea pigs, chickens and a dog, the children have to find homes for all the animals. The Vanderbeekers are my favorite family in literature and I can't wait for their next adventure.
We LOVE the Vanderbeekers so much! They are such a caring bunch with the best intentions! We couldn’t put it down and read it aloud in 3 days, sad we have to wait til next year for the 4th in the series but we’ll just have to go back and read the first 2 in the meantime. Thank you Karina Yan Glaser for the great example this family is to mine. ❤️
My kids (ages 9 and 11) and I have loved the two previous Vanderbeeker books and were eagerly awaiting the third installment. This one was just as good, if not better, than the first two! In The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue, the kids accidentally destroy their mom's home baking business and have to overcome a series of obstacles to try to fix everything. We are animal lovers and especially loved all the animals that show up in this book. I highly recommend all three books in this series! We can't wait for the next one!
I am way past being a "young" reader, but I have read all three books and have found them to be delightful. My sister and I listened to the audibles of the three books on a recent road trip, and the miles seemed to fly by. I have preordered book #4 and will probably set everything aside when it is released.
My daughter started reading this series when she was around 7, she is a good reader so I think now at almost 10 the books may be a little below her reading level, but she loves the story so much she is still into them and excited for the 2020 release.
We really like this family and this story of ordinary life. The relationships seem real, the kids are delightful but not perfect and the hijinx that ensue because of how they try to help are wonderful. If you need a feel good read, but not a sappy one, then this is for you!
Purchased for granddaughter's birthday. After she and her sister read it, they borowed the rest of the series from the library which is why I am awarding five stars. The girls are both ardent readers so my difficulty level may not be in tune with others of the same age.
We have enjoyed all of the books about the Vanderbeekers. I have been reading this third book to my kids every night at bedtime and they always say "One more chapter, please?" Or "Please don't stop reading!"
