To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I found this book, tedious and not particularly well written so I abandoned it half way through. I should add that I very rarely give up on a book (rare as hens teeth) but there are too many brilliant books just waiting to be read to waste anymore time trawling through this rubbish, sorry! I note all the rave reviews for it but some people are easily pleased. Each to his own, I guess.
I cannot reconcile how this book has obtained an average review of 4. It rambles incoherently and is certainly not creative. The author misses the mark with developing the idea of the novel and its ptential is lost.
The title and the pitch made me buy this book but it's honestly really hard to read. I don't like the way it was written, it doesn't feel like you're reading a novel, more of a journal and I don't like journals. I didn't manage to even finish the book which is quite rare for me.
I normally won't waste time on negative reviews but I absolutely hated this book. I am a voracious reader and very rarely give up on a book once I start reading it but this one just draggggggged on. I was only reading it because it was the monthly selection in my book club, but after slogging through the first 90 pages (over several weeks) I realized I wasn't going to finish it in time for my book club meeting. Not one to quit, I actually signed up for a paid Audible membership (my free trial had expired) and paid for this interminable dross again in audio book form. I still have SIX FREAKING HOURS TO LISTEN TO and I just cannot. It's terrible. So, so bad. There's really nothing about it I can find redeeming...I guess the hardcover design is pretty? You could try turning it into a drinking game and take a sip every time the word "door" appears but you could die of alcohol poisoning so maybe don't do that. Altogether with the hardcover, audible subscription & audio book I shelled out $50 for this garbage - not worth even a fraction of that.
