A brilliant way to establish control over the things you love but don't help you grow or acheive the goals you have set for yourself. Indistractable offers a system to break habits that might not be productive. It's an excellent book for the interesting times we're in - where people are using apps to reduce screen time and curb anxiety in the ever connected world.
We are seeing Apple, Google, OnePlus and other hardware manufacturers include these screen time restriction tools in their system firmware itself. Other tools have gotten parents access to restrict kids' screen time from technology.
When the future is turning towards remote work - it's essential to take a break. This book arrived at the right time and helps us unlearn negative patterns we might have created for ourselves.
Thank Nil. Have been a regular listener of your podcasts. So I had to pick up this book as well as the audio book. As you say "strive" to become indestructible, I have to. There is no other way to move the needle on things which matter to.my life. Already starting to use timeboxing. Need to revisit from chapter 1 again to ponder/apply your insight/method. Hope to succeed in imbibing some.of this. Very soon
A book which explains all what it's tittle express. You don't need to read no. of other books on distraction because this books contains everything you need to know about that. Really enjoyed this journey of reading.
A book trying to help you master technology and not be a slave of one. The issue of handling such addictive habit and behaviour for children should have been the central theme. The application of the concept to understand and motivating children can have far reaching effects for the future generation that is grappling with all the distractions. The issues of individuals handling personal distractions of adults at work, life would be better deduced as a corollary of handling issues for a child. The book initially sounded a bit preachy specially after reading "Hooked" by the same author till it connected with problems of technology for children. The challenges of managing technologies that Distract and helping regaining focus are well argued, but successes of being "Indistractable" left you wanting for more. Overall a good book, would definitely recommend for every parent to encourage children engage with technology & distractions that can be subsequently applied for self & then organisation and others. After reading the previous book Hooked, this book had a high bar of expectation, may not have exceeded but matched it well.
Very easy and quick read. Insightful, tactical and actionable. Loved the idea of synopsis at the end of every chapter makes it so easy to refer back in time of need. It was really thoughtful of the author to include the kit of parts in the book to enable the readers to become indistractable. I also, admired the idea of mentioning every contributors name at the end of the book. And I cleaned up my phone, deleted all the unnecessary apps, started unsubscribing my email from updates, changed the notification settings on all my devices. These small steps have made a considerable amount of difference. Thanks.
Great book and this topic is very relevant in our techno-infested life. Nir takes a different approach than the typical ways of avoiding distractions. The book gives a lot of good tips to control your distractions, some of them may be common sense and you may be doing it already but there are many more which you have not thought about. He also talks about how to be an Indistractable parent or spouse.
