5.0 out of 5 stars Great ending to an awesome duology

So, truth time.

Guys.

I really enjoyed this book so much more than the first! I did like the first but some things felt a little off such as the pacing and the relationship.

This book though was told from Carmen’s POV and where in the first book I wasn’t a huge fan of her as seen from Dani’s POV, but, turns out, I love her more than Dani and would fight for her honor lolol.

Anyway, this second book has a much quicker pacing, it’s more about the rebels and the power struggle between them and the government in power so that is probably another reason why I loved it.

This book also broke my heart, Idk why I bother having a favorite character when authors are so cruel! But! I suppose it just means she was very good at her job, crushing my soul, stomping on my heart.

Carmen goes through an amazing amount of character development through so many heart breaking challenges, and the end to this duology was everything I could have hoped for.

There was so much girl power, love of friends and the rise of those oppressed by a government built to keep them down. I loved it all, the lore wasn’t as heavy but the learnings of the history and the people and government more than made up for the lack of lore.

Great ending to an awesome duology, 4.5 cups of coffee from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting to hear the rest of the story through Carmen's POV

While I'm sad to see Carmen and Daniela's story end, I'm happy to have experienced it through this awesome series. While this sequel was different from the first book, it was powerful and entertaining in its own unique way. It was fast-paced and action-packed. I felt like I was discovering a new Carmen the same way that Dani was. I really enjoyed the series. I am so grateful for the poetic and satisfying ending!

I liked that the sequel is told from the perspective of Carmen. Adds a new dimension to it and you get to see more if La Voz. I really liked how this was told and how it ended but I thought it was a bit obvious who the big bad was. Other than great story. Love Carmen and Dani!

Loved the chemistry between the main characters and the way they worked together. The sition they are in adds an awesome aspect that they have to learn to manage, on top of feelings coming about and the world around then being dismantled.

Great end to a great series. Glad I picked it up blind, cuz it definitely wasn't what I was expecting

5.0 out of 5 stars This. Book.

I really liked We Set the Dark in Fire. But We Unleash the Merciless Storm? Both blew the first one away and makes me desperate to re-read the duology again.

This is a true duology in the way they were designed to be. Two books not just telling one story in two parts, but complementing each other, weaving together and entwining until there are a thousand reasons one could not stand without the other.

The queer representation is glorious, well portrayed and the feminist aspects? So beautiful.

Read. This. Book.

2.0 out of 5 stars LOVED the First Book, Disappointed by this Second Book

So I’m really sad to write this review, as I LOVED the first book. I felt that this book left a lot to be desired.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
Just a heads up, the second book is from Carmen’s perspective rather than Dani’s. That’s the first thing I didn’t love. Because of this, Carmen’s character for me becomes rather unlikeable. Dani doesn’t come back into the mix until halfway through the book, which is also disappointing. Other characters are lackluster as well, and one of the only likeable characters gets killed off because of Carmen’s mistake. The story itself is also rather predictable and overall just very disappointing. I will say that despite all this, I still loved the author’s writing style. I just was not a fan at all of the second book and I would recommend to just stop after the first book.

A wonderful wrap up to the story of Dani and Carmen. I was worried a dozen times that things would go wrong, balanced on a knife's edge, but none of it felt contrived. Highly recommend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first

This did not pack the OOMPH of the first book. There was so much suspense and "OMG is she about to get caught??" moments in the first one, it really kept the book going. This one did not have a lot of that, nor did it have any big surprise twists. The last hundred or so pages was just a really long path to the ending we all saw coming by now. I still enjoyed Carmen and Dani's story, but I think I liked Dani's POV way better.

I didn't know what to expect from the sequel and I admit I was scared of all the terrible possibilities, but I was not let down. It's such a good ending for this revolutionary girls.

I was really looking forward to this book, and it was worth the wait. There were some twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and some I did see coming but loved anyway. Using Carmen’s POV was a great choice. Sigh. I’m kinda sad there isn’t more to read.
