I thoroughly enjoyed this trade of Vader Dark Visions. It’s a collection of five stand alone stories about people on the periphery of one of sci-fi’s coolest (and not to forget) evil villains. The tales are told from different angles, one spectator views him as a hero to his people whilst others are justifiably terrified of him. I appreciated the mix in storytelling, one was more of a comedy and the others action adventure. The stand out tale is “Tall, Dark & Hansom” about a lonely nurse who has misplaced feelings for Vader. That was excellent. One tiny niggle that took me out of one story was that a seasoned rebel leader committed suicide to give a totally inexperienced new kid a “shot”. That was dumb. The art is excellent throughout and I highly recommend this.
I wasn't sure what this would be like, but was pleasantly surprised. Different tales each time either about or linking to Vader, all were really engaging and enjoyable. I'd recommend this to everyone. Was a refreshing take on Vader, his influence and how others perceive him.
Good stories offering different perceptions of Vader. Full of unexpected twists and turns. Worth a read for sure. A suggestion would be using the same concept but with a different character like luke skywalker
A bit of a mixed bag, but a fascinating look into how Darth Vader is seen by the 'NPCs' of the Star Wars galaxy are the greatest villain in fiction. While most of it obviously not good, it's also a deconstruction of how a figure of fear, power and mystery would be realistically seem to the average person. We, the audience, know about Vader's inner self and torment, but this volume shows the being of dark magic and cruel authority he would be to the terrified bystanders he crushes underfoot. Most fascinating of all is that his representation here is completely faithful and accurate to Canon-it just doesn't show the deeper self we all know, and he's all the more horrifying for it.
This Vader anthology may not be as consistently good as the ongoing series', but a few gems in here are worth the price of admission in my opinion. This collection contains five stories. Two were really good, one was okay, and two were, well, uninspired. Alternatively, I suppose you could just pick up the individual issues that are good, but I'm more of a Trade paperback guy.
