She’s worked hard to get the followers she as, however the book is disappointing, and this will be based purely on my expectations of wanting it to be more a a guild and not just recipes. The shopping list they used I cannot get my head around it, the prices are so low, for example 4kg of carrots for only £0.96, I can’t even get 500g for that, and then to drop the price to £160 (£20 x 8 weeks) they used a voucher for money off, it’s more like FYF40quid if your really lucky.
I love cookery books & have a fair few, flicking through the pages every now and then imagining myself rustling up gastronomic delights for my family. In reality it doesn't happen, I look down the ingredients list adding it up as I go & it's a big no no. The book goes back on the shelf. My food budget just doesn't stretch that far but I still want to cook interesting tasty food for my family. This book is the answer, it's full of recipes that I can actually afford to make! It's going to give me endless inspiration for meals & is going to help me get the most out of my budget. The store cupboard list & meal planner are a massive bonus and along with this book will help lots of people like me who never got taught at home how to cook from scratch, meal plan & use up leftovers. This book definitely won't be gathering dust on the book shelf!
Wow! Never have I found so many recipes in one book that really appeal to me. So far I’ve made 2 of the many, both a roaring success, caramelised onion and sausage stew and the breakfast macmuffin (which we had for our lunch). Many more are planned over the next 2 weeks and I can’t wait to try them. I love that there’s not a million ingredients and what there is you can source really easily and so far the ones I’ve made haven’t taken an age to prep, big bonus. I’d love to have the freezer space to try the 8 week plan, but I don’t and also I wouldn’t need breakfast or lunch recipes most days, but I still enjoy reading and seeing that side of it too. To say I’m impressed is an understatement. I’ve followed the fb page for along time, but never actually made any recipes on there or the website, I’m a sucker for a recipe book. Another positive of this book, there’s photos for every recipe, except for the few at the back but even those there’s photos shown or most of these items when they’re served with another dish shown in the book, I really dislike recipe books with few photos, even though what I make rarely looks like the photo I like to see a visual before making a meal, odd I know but I do. What more can I say, I’m in love with it.
Ive been following Lorna on her Facebook page for sometime & now she’s just brought her recipe book out, wow it’s amazing it helps you meal plan & shows recipes to make that are simple but are packed of flavour too! Step my step guides, glossy pictures. I’m so impressed.
Before purchasing her book I had already made a lot of her meals & desserts! that she put on her fb page & all of them are winners with my large family (I do have a certain few that are my personal favourite) Every household needs this in their kitchen!! Get organised, get planning, get batch cooking , reduce waste, eat healthy.. highly recommend & also if you have Facebook then I suggest you check it out too 😀
I buy many cookery books, some because I like the writers, some because I like the ideas, and some because they are the 'latest fad' but I have followed Lorna online for years with much success, this is the first cookery book I have ever bought that I made something out of it the first night home, and plan to make more to come. Easy to use and fun and not expensive to make from and several folk saw my book and have gone on to get their own.
A fantastic book with simple and cheap recipes. Really easy to follow. Already tried a couple and the cheese puffs are especially a hit with the kids. Looking forward to trying more recipes and the meal plan too
I am really enjoying this book - it's well set out with helpful information in the front and the recipes are grouped nicely into chapters with photos to show me what I am aiming for! I have made the Sausage Loaf which was delicious even though I accidentally left out the egg - I will definitely make this again & again. I'm really enjoying trying some new recipes & although I probably won't follow the meal plan religiously, I appreciate the thought & planning that went into it. Many thanks to the author for a brilliant book which I am sure will be a huge help to many families
The 20 quid a week comes from doing a bulk shop for 8 weeks and dividing the total by 8, you'll need a big freezer. This list spend gbp 6.20 on bread for 8 weeks, here in Poland I'm spending nearly 9 quid a week on bread for a family of six (8 loaves and 12 muffins). As a basic cookery book it's good with clear instructions and nice pictures but low cost meals are simply about not buying ready meals and spending a lot of time in the kitchen cooking. I'm sceptical on the 20 quid a week claim but I'll test is and come back at Easter.
Absolutely fantastic book which has clearly been written with feeding and saving families money. The recipes are fantastic and my partner has found them easy to do even while looking after our twin boys. The recipes are relatively simple but we'll explained and illustrated. Ingredients are nothing out of the ordinary. We really can't rate it highly enough. The homemade lamb kebab especially blew my mind.... Kebab meat made in a slow cooker!? Amazing.
I bought this book after reading all the good reviews, I had to wait a month for the new release and looked forward to it arriving. I expected a glossy book with a lot of pictures as per reviews, sadly looks like they have saved money on publishing this book. Its not glossy pages and no photos, just one or two black and white drawings on paperback paper. A great disappointment.
