The book itself is exciting. I enjoyed the first one in the series and the second is also similarly good. I wasn't expecting much honestly before reading these and looking at the title alone. I thought they would be another retelling of mythology which I have personally got tired of. But it was different - this is a fantasy series for young adults as I found out when I started reading but it was interesting enough so I stuck with it even though I'm no longer a teenager. My excuse is, the author is not either! :D
It channels a a bit Harry Potter but in the end all fantasy novels are fairly similar in plot. So it wasn't a turn off for me.
But I do have a problem with one thing in these books and the author in general and that is the number of chapters he has in all his books - there are about 100 chapters (in that ball park, don't remember the exact count) in a book that is 400 something pages. Some chapters are just 2 pages, and between one chapter and the next even the scene hasn't changed! And if you see the chapter title you can guess what's going to happen in it. Not sure why the author chose to write that way and why the publisher went with it. That is a terrible idea.
