I received a copy of this book for my opinion. This book has lots of cupcake recipes from the very basic to difficult. It also has several shortcut hacks, decorating tips and a suggestion section for what to make for what occasion. It looses one star for not having pictures of every recipe. I think that is really important in a baking book. All together, it is a fun book with lots of interesting recipes but pictures would have made it great.
I wish I could have gotten this book returned by the return date. I held on to it until Valentines. It totally ruined my son's Valentine day in his class. I am a baker and know better. Yet, I chose a very simple recipe from this book and it was baked to a "T." It was the worst tasting cupcake I have ever tasted in my life! My son was crying, but I just felt I couldn't use the cupcakes to send to his class. Again, I should have known better than buy a non-validated cook book when I have hundreds of others.
Tried a couple recipes that were mediocre. Also found a couple suspected typos (ex: Almond wedding cupcakes DO NOT bake at 250 degrees in 15 minutes). A little disappointed in the recipes, photos and layout are nice though.
This is a wealth of information about making cupcakes. If it is not here then I doubt you will find it. From equipment to oven baking, the book is quite comprehensive for the size that it is. The recipes are varied and something for everyone. I am interested in trying the White Velvet cupcakes and the carrot cake cupcakes. Oh, maybe the snickerdoodle ones! Well worth the price.
Besides having clear and attractive recipes, in this book there are extensive notes and illustrations. Included are substitutions--for example, no sour cream? Use yogurt or buttermilk. Organized by probable use: go-to recipes; grown-ups (alcohol in); dairy-free, etc. This is definitely a go-to book for desserts, treats, bake sales or school birthday celebrations.
