How long do I have to wait to find out what happens next?! Dammit Renée. Girl you know waiting is torture. Slightly slow to start and quite a bit darker than the first book, but I was totally involved!
"Apologies are for sheep. Let them all see what I have become. Let them fear me."
“My mortal father used to say that anger and fear are two sides of the same coin. They both make us behave outside of our nature."
How do I love vampires… Let me count the ways...
OK, why a vampires are generally not up to true lore standards but The Beautiful perhaps vampires back to beautiful atmospheric New Orleans. They were dark and mysterious and in a massive blood feud for power with other magical creatures. My criticism of The Beautiful, was although I loved the beauty of the world that was created… Not much happened until the last third.
The Damned is still quite atmospheric and beautifully written but it packs a lot more punch than its predecessor. The forbidden love somehow becomes more forbidden, the bloody feuds become bloodier and the magical creatures expand exponentially.
I’m giving this one 4.5 stars - I’m only taking off half a star because I wanted like 100 more pages! Boy, do I hate a cliffhanger! Now I remember why I wait until all the books are out in the series before I dive in!
Some deaths are straight forward. You stop breathing and get buried or cremated. Some are ambiguous like the death of childhood to adolescents. In this fantasy world there is mortal death to immortal life such as those of vampires and werewolves. Then the death of those immortals or the final death. But death can often breath new beginnings and new beginnings always breath new life! Michael and Sebastian must learn to live in the world of new beginnings.
I realized that I had assumptions in the first book that hadn’t even come to fruition yet. Celine continues to be my favorite character from this book series. Her passion and persistence was so admirable. Now, there is so much going on. So many new revelations and places the story could go, and all of a sudden they are minimized to maybe one? Gah, I have a feeling the next book is going to be WILD.
The storyline is good I just think some of it stretches out, making it a little difficult to keep reading. Usually I fly through a good book and can’t put it down but with this one I had to force myself to sit down and finish it.
