To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This book is the cutest! It has a wonderful message and I love seeing inclusive illustrations. It is the perfect story to start the school year to establish a classroom community. The writing and illustrations are 5/5.
However I am rating it lower because it is not Kindle Cloud Reader compatible. I am teaching 100% digitally and e-books that I can present while I read aloud have been a lifesaver- "traditionally" sharing a story doesn't allow my class to fully see the pages or hear me clearly. I originally borrowed it on Kindle Unlimited and thought it was just restricted there due to the nature of being "borrowed." I did purchase a copy (months after first borrowing it on Unlimited- I forgot about the restriction!) and I'm very disappointed to see that even owning it doesn't allow me to open on the cloud reader. I will be unable to share it with my class on my paperwhite screen so I'm pretty disappointed. I wish amazon listed that this feature was disabled.
I love the book and the message in the book. I’m excited to pair this with our unit on families. My copy was delivered in an amazon box and the book was in a sealed plastic pouch. Somehow it had a bunch of wood chip flakes in it. I was shaking the book over a trash can to get as much as I could off the book. SO STRANGE. I’ve never had an issue like this when ordering books from amazon. I even had another book delivered on the same day that was completely fine.
The story is absolutely wonderful! The author is a teacher and clearly knows what builds a classroom community. However, the book I received was printed backward and upside down. The cover of the book is actually the back of the book and the text forces me to have the book upside down. It also seems like the pictures don't line up as some of the illustrations are cut off. Love the story, but wish the book was printed better.
The story is lovely and the illustrations are wonderful! However, similar to many other reviews I read after purchasing, the book was printed incorrectly. The first 6 pages of the story are there, and then the story starts over with the title page. Once the story is over, the printing picks back up from the original on page 7 and finishes the book again!
