I confess to already being a great fan of Jane's books. 'Make It Easy' being the most well thumbed book in our entire kitchen collection. 'Just One Pan' is beautifully written and temptingly illustrated. It arrived just a few days ago and I have already been inspired to make the simplest of all recipes the 'Ridiculously East Flatbreads' to accompany drinks in the garden for a few friends. Perfect and stress free - like all of her brilliant ideas !
I haven't had this book all that long but as we had family visiting recently I've already made the "Ridiculously Easy Flatbreads" - (they are!!), the "Warm Baked Artichoke & Parmesan Pate" (jolly nice), the "All-in-one Chicken Liver Pate" (the best recipe I've tried for this) and the "Cheesy Smoked Haddock & Spinach Stuffed Baked Potatoes" (lovely and tasty). So far, so blinking excellent. There are great tips for getting ahead with recipes, of which I took advantage so that I wasn't doing too much prep while guests were here. Plus it's a lovely read with opportunities for planting inspiring ideas in the brain for retrieval later. Just one thing. The title may suggest very easy dishes and there is actually a bit more prep involved in some recipes than you might at first imagine. But for me that's irrelevant. Overall, highly recommended.
I saw a handful of recipes from this book featured in a national newspaper and tried one of them out before buying. It was delicious so I bought the book. All the recipes clearly set out the ingredients and easy to follow instructions. Some ingredients are, to me, a little unusual - for example, I had never used bulgar wheat before, but the ones I have made have been delicious. Highly recommended.
You know you've bought a good book when you read it and immediately want to do a load of recipes. Beautifully laid out, great photos, well written with straightforward instructions and a helpful 'get ahead' section for every recipe - a must for every creative but busy cook who wants to update their repertoire. Jane Lovett is very talented and has quickly become one of my favourite writers. I have her other 2 books too so I know her recipes work!
