Following the hugely successful “Inspired: How To Create Tech Products Customers Love” internationally renown product management guru Marty Cagan has just published “Empowered: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Products”. Together with Chris Jones, Cagan captures how the best product companies approach technology and empower product teams.
Cagan and Jones are probably in the best position to see a stark difference between the technology-powered products created by the best companies and the products created by most companies. There are three specific areas where this difference is the most apparent: the way in which technology is viewed, the role product leaders play and the purpose of product teams. The book elaborates on these area, offering helpful stories and pointers.
I highly recommend “Empowered” to anyone who wants to truly understand what’s involved in product leadership, and what is imperative for any strong product company.
Another great book by SVPG and Mary Cagan. Worth reading Inspired first before reading Empowered. This book is simple to read, and gives you solid understanding of what 'good' looks like and is impactful for a product company. Great for inspiring or already are, product leaders.
i am so satisfied with the book. it is so clear and you have the feeling that Marty is talking to you directly. I would recommend it to all my colleagues in product management. Empowered is for Senior Members and focuses on how to really manage, coach and develop each team member -> outcome will be an amazing product. If you are a junior PM with no direct reports, i would suggest you to buy Inspired.
With his book and blog posts, Marty Cagan is building a map showing how you and your team can work more effectively to build great products. It's a book to keep next to you to help you with the struggles that will surely appear.
This book feels very empty. It looks as if Marty Cagan wrote a list of things of everything he could think of, spent 30mn ordering it into different categories, and filled each chapter with generic sentences to bump up the page count.
Very little value delivered overall and no actionable information, unless you just graduated and have a limited understand of what a PM would do. But this is supposed to be a book for PM leadership?
