I bought this book thinking that it would guide me through how to host a dinner party with a few recipes thrown in. There are suggestions such as "prepare in advance", "stay cool"... Let's just say, I learned absolutely nothing! The book is just a series of recipes with a bit of chit chat thrown in reflecting Ina's privileged life and dropping names of famous people who have come to her home because of her well-connected husband. You can bet that she always had a bunch of people working the kitchen which most people, including myself, don't have.
In addition, this book was written 20 years ago and the recipes are showing their age and have nothing new to offer that we don't already know. Roast turkey anyone??? No Asian, Indian, Spanish, South American... Oh, and the Italian one is spaghetti with pesto!
Not recommended on any level and a waste of money for me!
Beautiful book with lots of great pictures of old recipes. I didn't find one recipe that I would make that I don't already. It is an older book and there are plenty of more up to date books that reflect the newer trends in food.
