Fractured Mosaic is a unique matrix of Sabarna Roy's own musings collected and compiled in a book which takes the readers to a mesmerizing whirlpool of post-modern urban milieu. Like a mosaic this book is a collection of some random musings and journal entries of the author. The musings ranges from tv shows to current socio-political situation. In his journal entries author talks about his childhood, how he miss his childhood and how sometimes the nostalgia keeps coming back. I was awestruck by the vast knowledge the author possess. Though the information were very random in the sense they are not interconnected but still I can relate to them. I felt connected when I read this book. Like a kaleidoscope this book contains various aspects of life articulated from the author's own experiences. The language is lucid yet bejewelled with beautiful vocabulary. Author has tried to depict that beauty is not flawless and flawless beauty does not exist. He has tried to establish the uncertainty underlying human characters. Though his narration is intellectually stimulating, I felt something is missing in this book, like when you feel the the book is good but there's a void which needs to be filled to make it a perfect book. Maybe I need to read more of his books to completely comprehend his writing. Overall a very informative and insightful book.
