sizzling, hot read

When I started reading Dev and Avni's story as written beautifully by Shilpa Suraj in her latest book 'Midnight's Star' - I didn't expect to be as floored as I was, as early as 9 pages into the book, when the characters meet each other for the first time.
What I love most about Shilpa Suraj's books is that with the power of her words, she tackles the most difficult subjects in a manner that aims to raise awareness them while being empathetic towards the protagonists in her stories. Over and above a love story, 'Midnight's Star' made me, as a reader, really think about how things that are seemingly normal to an individual like me can be so difficult for someone who's going through life with a disability.
That does NOT mean to say that the chemistry between the lead pair is not given the attention it deserves. Rather, it leaps between the words, intertwined in pages so skillfully that you wait with bated breath for that moment when they will finally realize their love for each other and do what their hearts have been telling them from the beginning.
Dev Arya is your typical, swashbuckling hero - broody, handsome, rich and elegant. Except, he is visually impaired and lonely. Shilpa masterfully creates his character to be the kind you want to go awwwwwwwwww at while sighing at his innate sexiness.
Avni is the calm to the storm that is Dev - kind to the point of being just the tad bit gullible, super sweet, a little bit kitschy but all heart. She offers Dev a shoulder to cry on and a peaceful place to sit and write (he's an author). Yet, when he offers to help her, the independent streak in her refuses the help, thinking that it comes with some hidden terms that she will not be able to comply with.
This is part 1 of the 'Shades of Night' series by Shilpa & the protagonists of the other books are introduced in this one as Avni and Dev's closest friends. I can't wait to read their stories!
