For The Love of Fictional Worlds
4.0 out of 5 stars Another Intriguing YA Thriller from the Queen of YA Thriller ✨

(Voluntarily reviewed a physical copy of the book on For The Love of Fictional Worlds)
•
Karen McManus books are those easy to fall in YA Thrillers that are perfect for those times when you just want to get lost in a fictional world and ignore your reality.
•
In Nothing More To Tell, we have, Brynn who is finally back to her previous school after five blissful years - she didn’t want to come back; but she has no choice. The only good thing on the horizon is her intern interview with “Motive” a true crime show.
•
On the other hand, we have Tripp, once a close friend of Brynn but was responsible for an incident that created a gap between them.
•
We also have the j solved murder of a beloved school teacher, the murder Brynn used to get an interview with the show and why she starts talking to Tripp again.
•
Okay. Tbh, this was quintessential Karen McManus book - you have dual POVs, almost every chapter has a new reveal and it is fun to actually put the clues together to get to the actual real story.
•
But yes, if you haven’t read her books; then I would suggest do NOT read all of her books together. They do tend to read similarly and you wouldn’t be able to enjoy them as much as you can, if you read them with time and space in between.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book for the most part
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 29 September 2022
Four years ago, Brynn's high school teacher was brutally murdered in the woods. He was her favourite teacher in Saint Ambrose School. The case was never solved but the three kids who found the body seems to be hiding something. Among the three kids is her ex best friend Tripp.

4 years later since she left that school, she gets an internship in a true crime podcast show. She decides to investigate this case as she is going back to that school. And she starts uncovering new truths...

This book was so addictive and fast paced that I could not put this book down. Brynn and Tripp together were unraveling new truths and I could not stop turning the pages.

I enjoyed the friendship dynamic between Tripp, Shane and Charlotte. It was not a wholesome friendship group mind you. It was a toxic friend group if anything but the dynamic between the three was so weird and interesting.

But I did love Tripp and Brynn's friendship though. It felt very genuine and wholesome.

My only complaint about this book is the reveal of the main killer. There is no solid explanation as to who the real murderer is. Brynn makes a theory and confronts it to that person but that person denies. On top of that there is no real proof as to if that person is the killer. Brynn's theory makes sense but there is no investigation that proofs that Brynn's theory is true. So in all, it was an unsatisfactory conclusion.

But still despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'd highly recommend it if you enjoy reading mystery thrillers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Go for it!!

Well, this was fun! The last book by McManus wasn't up to the mark for me, but this one was surprisingly refreshing and adventurous. I was worried traversing too much on the same land might leave some old footprints difficult to scrub off, but McManus pulled it off quite efficiently. She hasn't yet lost her sheen despite writing so many on the same arc.

Brynn Gallagher is a teenager who's an aspiring journalist, and now she's back in her old town uncovering the secrets concerning the murder of her favourite teacher four years back. I absolutely loved Brynn. She's a n

no-nonsense kinda protagonist who sticks to her business despite all odds being hurled at her. And, I also loved Tripp. He's quite the conventional, popular-guy, teenager but he eventually proves to be so much more than that.

I literally flew through this one. Read it really fast and I wasn't expecting that, especially after the disappointment that her last book was. The plot was really unpredictable, going around in circles, so it was really fun to decipher the whodunit game. The suspense stretches along to the very epilogue. Also, there are references to the other mysteries from McManus' other titles, so it's gonna be fun for those who read the. If you're into YA thrillers, this one's definitely going to be worth a late night rendezvous!

Spoilers...
Plot: Great plot, many secrets hiding in Mr. Larkin’s closet which led to a large list of suspects. Who it was made for an intriguing reveal and all the pieces perfectly aligned to who the killer was revealed to be. I just wish we would have seen them actually getting caught and everyone finding out who did it, so the ending was a little disappointing.
Characters: Brynn and Tripp were both excellent main characters and an entertaining duo. Ellie is a great comedic side character and pops up when her sister needs her, but also runs her own scheme to find out who is vandalizing Mr. Larkin’s portraits … clever girl. Charlotte and Shane created the suspicion needed to make them compelling persons of interest. Mr. Solomon was right, Mr. Larkin probably got what he deserved, but the killer should have to take responsibility for their actions.
Writing: Written through the alternating POV of Tripp and Brynn which continually propels the plot forward as both main characters only know pieces of the puzzle, so when they finally work together they’re able to make sense of what happened four years ago which proves helpful in discovering who actually killed Mr. Larkin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read by Karen!

I love Karen McManus and have worked my way through all of her books, and so far I’ve loved all of them, of course One of Us is Lying being my best read!

Nothing more to tell again doesn’t disappoint. It follows Karen’s usual style of writing, with the story told from the perspective of Brynn, a student journalist who begins investigating her teachers murder for years previously, and Tripp, Brynn’s best friend and who also found the teachers body. We follow the murder mystery and it becomes apparent all is not as it seems shall we say!

I found this another great read and thoroughly enjoyed the book! My only small gripe would be the fact we don’t actually find out for definite who killed Mr Larkin, it is only implied and the ending is vague. I’m someone who likes a book to tie up the loose ends and have a definitive ending.

Can’t wait for Karen's next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Karen M. McManus book so far
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 6 October 2022

I have enjoyed all of Karen M. McManus’ YA thrillers that I have read and Nothing More to Tell is no exception. In fact it is my favorite so far.

Four years ago the body Mr. Larkin, a beloved teacher at Saint Ambrose school, was found by 3 eight grade students (Tripp, Shane and Charlette). Though Shane’s fingerprints were on the rock that was used to kill Mr. Larkin, all 3 students gave the same story that they just found the body and that Shane picked up the rock without even thinking. It was thought that it must have been a drifter that killed Mr. Larkin and the case was never solved. Brynn Gallagher was also a student at the school at the time, but then her father’s job was relocated to Chicago. Brynn wants nothing more than to be a reporter and she was the editor and chief of her school paper in Chicago. But now her family has moved back to Sturgis, Massachusetts. Brynn applies and is accepted as an intern on a popular true-crime show called “Motive” and she is excited when she pitches the unsolved murder of Mr. Larkin as a segment for the show and it is accepted. As Brynn starts investigating what really happened four years ago she uncovers a lot of secrets and stirs up a hornet’s nest.

I loved everything about this book. I thought all of the characters were very well developed and I loved all the twists and turns. Just when I would think I had things figured out there would be a twist to push me in another direction.

I loved the relationship between Brynn and her younger sister. They were very close, and Brynn could bounce theories off her and her sister would give honest feelings. I also loved watching Brynn reconnect with her friends she had, Especially Tripp. They were best friends until Tripp told the whole school that Brynn was stalking him, even though she wasn’t. When she came back to Sturgis, they were more like enemies, and I loved watching their relationship evolve.

I don’t want to say anything about the investigation into Mr. Larkin’s murder, but if you read any of Karen M. McManus’ YA thrillers then I think you will enjoy Nothing More to Tell
