Lady Elizabeth not interested in balls was staying away from the ton .But her friend Prudence wouldn't let her hide herself. Prudence sets her up to meet Lord Oliver and their meetings end in disagreements. But both caught in an uncompromising situations are forced to marry . There is love but a lot of disagreements too .Lord Oliver has a bitter past where his sister was kidnapped. He fears for his wife too . It is a very entertaining and enjoyable read . I am on the ARC team.
I liked the story but did find the constant arguments between Elizabeth and Oliver rather childish. However, they did eventually lead to improvements in their marriage. The threat to Elizabeth's life was glossed over. She was threatened by someone she thought was honourable. He captured her, imprisoned her, told her he was going to kill her then offered to dine with her. I did not think the ending was strong and the extended epilogue could have been the last chapter.
LOVED the characters and storyline the interaction between Oliver and Elizabeth was brilliant until she allowed it to be personal.
Had a problem with Elizabeth the way she spoke to Oliver (found her character nasty in parts no reason for it ).
Also surprised that Oliver had started to question and doubt himself, at times she went too far). it hard to believe that during this period a woman would talk down to a man and belittle him to the extent she did.
That being said I LOVED IT. (IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE)
There is a lot of bantering in this story. The heroine is a spinster who is caught in a compromising situation. The hero is still dealing with his sister’s death. They marry to avoid more scandal. It was an interesting read to see how this misaligned couple come to love each other. It had a fair amount of action.
This story is a unique spin on marrying out of obligation. Elizabeth and Oliver, are both not interested in ever marrying. And they both dislike each other, immensely, and argue every time their paths cross. They also both have sarcastic humor and a sharp, biting tongue. While reading I thought, there is no way these two will ever get together. I then determined that Elizabeth would be marrying someone else. It’s that great of writing to throw me off! And who knew how one kiss would a life altering game changer. I enjoyed the H/h humor and developing relationship. Drama woven in near the ending amped up the tension. It is well written, with well-developed characters, and a fast-moving story line that kept me interested right to the end. Great read! I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
A Spinster and a Rake . What an odd couple. There friends decide they should try and match them. Only when together all they did was constantly bicker. Until the bickering became something so much more. Then there was a force betrothal. You can only imagine where this can go . Only not really. So much happening and excitement and suspense. Lady Elizabeth and Oliver the Duke of Tradegrove had a very Rocky relationship. Bothe fighting there feelings and emotions. Many things happen that you don’t expect. This Tale will have you watch and feel as two people grow into a relationship. You will be captured into it. You only hope for happiness true love will win.
