Once Upon A Mistake by Shilpa Suraj is the first part of the Il Cuore series. This is the story of Maya and Yash, and how their life changed completely after an accident, five years ago. Maya being engaged, broke down completely after the accident, was dumped, injured, and drowned in debt. On the other hand, Yash, who was looking forward to a bright future, was devastated when he lost his job and was dumped over a text. What will happen when their paths get entangled again, on both professional and personal fronts, with the whereabouts and deep-rooted effects of the accident? To know more about it, read the book.
This was my first read of 2023, and I could not have asked for a better start than this. Shilpa Suraj found such a deep balance between the character development and story progression, that you will fall in love with her writing, as I did! The ease in the writing, the threads left so that they can either get more complex or could be resolved with time, making the reader completely involved with the story.
Shilpa Suraj portrayed her characters sensationally, giving them layers and exploring the complexity throughout the story. Even the supporting characters are so well penned, that you want to know more of them take it for example, Karam, the bold, sensational, and heart throbbing guy, or Shikha, the royal, less talking, carrying mystery with herself, or Ved, the soft-spoken, carrying the guilt of past, fighting with himself at each step, making us more intrigued about him or the ever fighting Kanak and Akash, each character is written in such a way that the reader can ask for more of them. And I'm intrigued to read the next parts of the series.
It was a perfect book to remind me why I love reading romance as a genre so much, why it's my comfort genre and why I want to read it more. This is a perfect book for romance readers as well as someone who is looking forward to getting into this genre, whoever you are, just read this book! A book I highly recommend.
The story is about Maya and her friends Ved , Kanak , Karam who lose their best friend Vikram on their MBA graduation party to a car accident. 5 years later They are invited to a memorial meet by Vikram's sister . But Vikram's brother is not happy with the same as He thinks Vikram's friends killed him.
At the memorial meet Maya meets Yash her ex fiancee. Maya feels Yash ended the engagement because of the accident which also hurt maya's leg. Yash feels that maya ended the engagement because he was unemployed.
Will Maya and Yash find TRUE love ? Will the friends overcome the guilt of losing their best friend?
This story had me laughing from the beginning. The banter between the protagonists and the supporting characters is amazing. I loved the touch of melodrama in some scenes. The loss of a best friend shown is painful. It's a simple yet entertaining read.
Maya has a broken heart but that didn’t deter her spirit. She’s got a physical handicap, a scar that changes her life completely. But she still stands by her friends who always have each other’s back and value their friendship more than anything else. A broken engagement, a love that she thought will be her happily ever after, he’s someone she hasn’t been able to move away from.
Yash is bitter and hurt over a broken engagement. He has fallen in love with her and with a breakup over the text when he lost his father and was trying to revive his business and finances, has made him cynical about love.
Are Yash and Maya really not made for each other? What happens when their paths cross? Have they really broken each other’s heart? Will they take a second chance love offers them? Read the book to find out.
One of the most complicated takes on relationships handled very subtly and executed beautifully. Relationships are complicated love is a complex emotion and each person’s way of expressing and handling emotions are different. Hats off to Shilpa for handling and expressing them with such finesse.
Such a heart warming story. The friendship, the tragedy, their reunion, their bond, the crude jokes, interfering mothers. Maya and Yash's misunderstandings, their realisation and finally accepting their love for each other, all this is what the book is about. Worth the time. Waiting for Aakash and Kanak's book. Shilpa Suraj's books are engaging and entertaining as always..
A sweet and nice read..much better than some of the recent ones..the story was smooth and each of the characters well defined.. the only problem was that the story has too many incidents happening in it..otherwise it was a pleasure.
This book is mind blowing. I am awed by Shilpa Surajs writing. Her characters are real life people with a multitude of problems. The banter between the MCs and the passion simmering underneath is incredible. Her books give you hope and keep a constant smile on your face. What else do you need to take a break from the monotony of life. I just know that the rest of the stories are going to be as beautiful as this one.
Everything about this book is good. The characters all of them are nicely done. Vikram who is not there but still you feel his existence throughout the story. Maya and Yash stays with you even after you finish the book.
I have read and loved most of your books but the wit and sense if humour used in this book in on point. I re-read some pages so many times just to enjoy the wit. It's just awesome. I have been laughing like an idiot while reading this.So thank you for that and hope this encouragement reaches to you. Hope to enjoy the next books in this series.
Shilpa Suraj how to be deeply sensitive and comic at the same. I read all your Ms. Suraj and not even one was less entertaining then the rest. Equally beautiful Equally funny equally heart touching. Once upon a mistake is an amazing book. A must read for all.
I enjoy Shilpa's books greatly. There's some wicked but gentle humour, torn and driven protagonists, and lots of heart. There's a lot to unpack here - the different friendship dynamics, the back stories, the tortured souls - and I'm glad Shilpa is spreading it out over four books. All the more for us to enjoy!
