I bought this as a gift and it's going back. I have drawing experience and can say this is not a beginner's book. The drawings go from simple line drawings to advanced final drawings with very little guidance. The author does include drawing basics at the start of the book, but the methods she uses to shade the drawings are not something you can just do without a lot of practice. I also can't see how anyone, except an experienced artist, could get good results in 15 minutes, especially with coloured pencils which take many layers to achieve a decent effect. This book tries to achieve too much and I think it could prove frustrating for the beginner. If you're looking for a good book for beginners I recommend Mark Kistler's books.

Definitely not for beginners, discouragingly so. The step-by-step drawings are easy to follow until step four or five, where suddenly their drawings go from looking like mine to near-photograph quality with the only instructions being, “Deepen your shading here and use an eraser to show highlights,” without really telling you HOW. The steps need to be broken down a lot more to be truly helpful for the beginner.
